Jim,
What the f@#$? Do you think ATi is cutting you a deal selling you a XT for $500?
Cripes, Rollo's posts offer plenty to pick at, but now you're attacking capitalism? Where do you live? It can't be America.
It'd be *nice* if the OP sold that XTPE at or slightly above his cost to a desparate, rich gamer here at AT, but his sacrificing some income for another AT'ers benefit would be considered above and beyond in most circles, not par for the course. I'm not so sure capitalism and the categorical imperative are at odds with each other. Sure, I don't *want* someone to resell me a card at a 50% profit, but that's what most retail stores tend to do. I wouldn't exactly feel sorry about offering a XTPE for $600+ and having someone buy it of their own free will (and wallet). I'm not forcing them to buy anything, and, to be honest, I'm not too worried about anyone spending that much on a video card.
But, then, I kind of liked The Fountainhead, and at least the general ideas in Atlas Shrugged. Perhaps you didn't care for them.
Let's be clear: this isn't selling water to Florida residents for 3x the price. This is PC gaming, where video cards depreciate practically faster than real cars (it ain't an analogy, but I worked cars into this!). The guy who wants a hybrid Lexus at launch is going to pay above sticker. He's going to get a better deal after it's been on sale for a while. It's the sales guy's fault that the customer is willing to pay a premium to be the first on his block with that latest fancy-pants car?
