You fail at reading comprehension. The piece offers that there were no demonstrations in Benghazi, that the militia members attacked w/o warning. Rice got it wrong initially, because what she was told was wrong, but it really doesn't make any difference. Once the truth was known, once the situation was sorted out, it became obvious that they never were lying, merely mistaken, and they've said so.

If I come up with the wrong answer to a complex mathematical question with unknown variables, I'm not lying when I give the wrong answer. I'm merely mistaken, and so was Rice.

Of course Repubs are doubling down- it's all they've got, other than the same Neocon trickledown scam that put us in our present situation, the same fear mongering & pandering to the right fringe that they've done for decades.

There is indeed outrage here -- that in the briefing on the benghazi attack (which republicans in particular have been shouting is needed), only 3 of the 8 republicans on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee actually showed up.

On the other hand, 7 of 9 democratic members were there. Not great, but much better.

Really shows who actually cares about getting to the bottom of this and who is just trying to stir up a bunch of outrage without regard for americans who have been killed.
 
This has become purely political. Make rice a bad pick for SoS and Obama will go with Kerry which opens up a seat in the senate (a Scott brown come back maybe?).

The only thing rice could have done differently was to give out classified secrets.

Why would you say thanks? This story is pretty obviously political motivated by Republicans and doesn't seem to have much traction outside of the echo chamber. Keeping it alive longer seems like it hurts Republicans far more than Democrats...particularly when many people likely expect both parties to drop their election season bullshit and actually get to work. The fact that Republican pundits are salivating over turning this into a scandal for Obama doesn't mean that's something that can actually happen.

It was pretty easy to tell right away, I'd say. The fact that many Republicans (including Romney) went ape shit above 5 minutes after the attack happened, before we knew much of anything, makes it pretty clear their objective was political in nature and had very little to do with what actually happened.
 
I wonder why Rice relied solely on the talking points memo when she had direct access to the intelligence reports. I also wonder who wrote up the talking points memo as well as who asked her to hit the Sunday talk show circuit.
