Swimming upstream against the natural pro-R media bias that represents Democrats as the only people with agency and avoids talking about there being an R trifecta that fully controls the government. Unfortunately our legislative leaders can mostly only dog paddle which is a problem.
Though on the plus side Trump is undoubtedly going to crow about how great a shutdown is because they think they can fire way more people more easily and, I assume, just decide to not pay stuff like SSI if they want. He's gonna shoot his own dick off with a bazooka.
A media ecosystem that includes social media where both left and right can complain only about Democrats.
As long as the Democrats stick to their guns this time, maybe there will be some slightly better outcome. With 6 months to further tank Trump's polling numbers on everything, it becoming abundantly clear that Vought intends to illegally not spend legally appropriated funds, and congressional Republicans having no interest in forcing the impoundment issue (and even agreeing to rescissions to alter deals after the fact), Democrats should have more wind in their sails at this point in time vs March.
Democrats also have a simple public ask: fund healthcare to keep costs from exploding. There is obviously more to the fight, but the public message for the masses that are not so tuned in as literally anyone on this forum save a few that seem to perpetually live under rocks is that Republicans are shutting down the government because they want to make your life more expensive.
Under Trump, things are going to cost more and life is going to be worse.
