FYI: There was never going to be negotiation or deals to avoid the shutdown.

The shutdown was always part of the plan and the idea of doing a "deal" with democrats was actually "democrats agreeing to whatever was submitted by Republicans"

All the talking between individuals members was pointless excersize as no republican had the courage or power to alter the overall plan.

Federal employees at multiple agencies received emails Tuesday blaming congressional Democrats for a potential government shutdown “forced” by the party, an unusual use of government communications that typically steer clear of political comments.

“President Trump opposes a government shutdown and strongly supports enactment of H.R 5371,” the administration stated in identical emails sent by at least four agencies, referencing the bill name of the continuing resolution (CR) that would fund the government through Nov. 22.

“Unfortunately, Democrats are blocking this continuing resolution in the U.S. Senate due to unrelated policy demands. If Congressional Democrats maintain their current posture and refuse to pass a clean Continuing Resolution to keep the government funded before midnight on September 30, 2025, federal appropriated funding will lapse,” the emails obtained by The Hill said.

The emails go on to say that each agency has a plan in place in the event of “any lapse in appropriations by Congressional Democrats.”

Ask yourself this question:
Does the country want to watch Chuck Schumer on camera looking down his nose at us and Chuck-splaining who’s “responsible” for the shutdown??? Will that help or hurt Dems???

Next question:
Is Jefferies really any better?

Our Congressional Dem leaders still operate in an old-media ecosystem built on staged photos and 12 second soundbites for TV news. They have no fucking clue how to message for Tok, podcasts, longer form digital content etc.

Orgs like MeidasTouch and TYT have to fill the vacuum but will never get the access they need to these leaders or their raw, unfiltered takes that haven’t been watered down through a dozen aides and consultants.

Has anyone seen a consistent or concise message from Dems on the shutdown and a reason for their actions? It seems like this would have been a perfect opportunity to highlight what the Dems are fighting for:

We are fighting to keep healthcare costs from skyrocketing due to the passage of trumps big beautiful bill.

We will not be waiting 45 days to negotiate a deal with republicans only to have them allow Trump to ignore or reappropriate appropriated funds Congress has approved of for whatever he feels like. We will use the leverage we have to ensure the American people are taken care of.

GOP was always 100x better at this stuff.

The most amusing thing here is that Trump states are poised to absolutely take it in the rear sans lube from expiring ACA subsidies and the Medicaid cuts. Senate Rs are more than welcome to nuke the filibuster to make sure their voters are maximally harmed. Democrats should provide no votes for this.

Nearly everything that's grown here is soy for export or corn for ethanol or to make feed. Two out of the three of those we don't need. This chunk of the ag economy accounts for about 25ish billion of a state GDP of 1.145 trillion dollars. All while imposing external costs on the state environment that they do not pay for.

I found this post I began one or more days back and reading your reply realized I didn’t post it because I must have been interrupted and didn’t finish it. I was going to add:

Democrats should not divide people by geography, city or rural, by race or gender, sexual orientation ect. Democrats, in this case should work for the best interests of farmers regardless of how they tend to vote. Condemning them for their political self sabotage etc. just deepens the wedge. Farmers are vital to all of our wellbeing. As with everything else, corporations and the profit motive have destroyed a sense we are all in this together. They are in it for profit only and function most profitable when run by sociopaths and psychopaths.

Honestly I think Democrats should do our level best to help Republicans destroy what's left of rural America, as those very voters have demanded.
