And you would turn them on when you got home, go make dinner, set up the tv trays, and by then you could just start to see the picture ?

Had a old black and white tv in my bedroom as a kid. It would take about 30 seconds to warm up to a normal picture. And when you turned it off, it would go grey, then black, then shrink to a tiny white dot in the middle of the screen, then finally turn off.

Oh yeah, I remember 'em.

And most of them, you had to smack them in the side occasionally to get the picture back to normal. After a while, you'd learn exactly how AND where to hit it, so that you could hit it just right and fix it the first time. :)

I fell off a console tv like that and broke my arm.

Oh yeah, and it was always a blast when I could help my dad take tubes down to the local hardware store and put them in the "tester" which seemed about the size of a small car. :)

Really? My car has mostly buttons and switches. The only knobs left are for the radio and the lights, and I'll bet that those are controlled digitaly as well.

Anyway, I think that it would be really cool if someone released a "retro look" TV, which would have some nice wood trim and chrome plated knobs. Sure, it would still have all of the modern electronics inside, but it would look cool with the right decor.

Yea, but you new it was still working even though the picture was out because you could see things that glowed through the louvers in the back.

I still have one in my office, doesn't seem worth upgrading it seeing that I rarely watch TV in here...
