You know how you are a teller of large untruths?

The founding of the original American Marine Corps:

"Leading up to the American Revolution, a committee of the Continental Congress met to draft a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore. The resolution was approved on November 10, 1775, officially forming the Continental Marines.

As the first order of business, Samuel Nicholas became captain and commanding officer of the newly formed Marines and visited numerous public inns and taverns throughout the city of Philadelphia to begin recruiting. One of his first recruits was popular patriot and tavern owner Robert Mullan. Capt Mullan owned Tun Tavern, which subsequently became part of military lore as the birthplace of the Marine Corps.

Each year, the Marine Corps marks November 10 with a celebration of the brave spirit which compelled these men and thousands since to defend our country as United States Marines."

the term Leatherneck:

"Leatherneck: The nickname Leatherneck has become a universal moniker for a U.S. Marine. The term originated from the wide and stiff leather neck-piece that was part of the Marine Corps uniform from 1798 until 1872. This leather collar, called The Stock, was roughly four inches high and had two purposes. In combat, it protected the neck and jugular vein from cutlasses slashes. On parade, it kept a Marine's head erect. The term is so widespread that it has become the name of the Marine Corps Association monthly magazine, LEATHERNECK."

You were saying?
Who was swinging those cutlasses? Hmm?
The Muslim Barbary coast pirates, that's who...wanting their Jizyah.
So no..NOT untruth.
2/3 truth maybe..
Way to try to spin and fail..

Actually it was John Adams.
Jefferson didn't fare so well..not terrible,though.

Yeah..Beck is wrong..it is what it is.

John Adams and Congress founded the Marine Corps to combat Muslim Barbary coast pirates.

Not in 1775.

Is it that you enjoy the public humiliation?

Edit:

"Resolved, that two Battalions of Marines be raised consisting of one Colonel, two Lieutenant Colonels, two Majors & Officers as usual in other regiments, that they consist of an equal number of privates with other battalions; that particular care be taken that no persons be appointed to office or inlisted into said Battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve to advantage by sea, when required. That they be inlisted and commissioned for and during the present war with Great Britain and the colonies, unless dismissed by Congress. That they be distinguished by the names of the first & second battalions of American Marines, and that they be considered a part of the number, which the continental Army before Boston is ordered to consist of."

Resolution of the Continental Congress on 10 November 1775

Now, unless you are claiming that the British forces were Muslim pirates?

who said 1775?

They were wearing leather in 1775? o_O

Paying tribute will merely invite more demands, and even if a coalition proves workable, the only solution is a strong navy that can reach the pirates, Jefferson argued in an August 18, 1786, letter to James Monroe: "The states must see the rod; perhaps it must be felt by some one of them. . . . Every national citizen must wish to see an effective instrument of coercion, and should fear to see it on any other element than the water. A naval force can never endanger our liberties, nor occasion bloodshed; a land force would do both." "From what I learn from the temper of my countrymen and their tenaciousness of their money," Jefferson added in a December 26, 1786, letter to the president of Yale College, Ezra Stiles, "it will be more easy to raise ships and men to fight these pirates into reason, than money to bribe them." Jefferson says "no" to Jizyah.

A misinformed statement does not constitute a blatant lie.
The dates were off,the gist of the situation still stands.

Jefferson recruited men to fight the Muslim Barbary pirates vs paying them jizyah.

That is documented fact.

The date was wrong, as was who formed them, as was the reason for their formation so, no, "the gist of the statement does *not* stand.

So I guess, yes, that certainly is a "misinformed statement".

I guess that just means that you're not a lying, ignorant bigot, you're simply an ignorant bigot.

Here's what they wore leather to protect against: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Cutlas.../dp/B008YXCME2
Scimitars.

But you still don't believe the Treaty of Tripoli is fact?
Didn't the Marines worry about the swords everybody else carried also, like the French Catholics?
They probably didn't worry so much about their own scimitars though eh

Meanwhile a bunch of proponents of the religion of peace again assaulted a major city in Nigeria on Sunday, and were repelled suffering large casualties by Nigeria's military.

Don't worry, though, they have nothing to do with Islam.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-13809501
Nigeria's militant Islamist group Boko Haram - which has caused havoc in Africa's most populous country through a wave of bombings, assassinations and abductions - is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state.

Please don't get confused by the fact that a group that has killed thousands and is trying to replace the government with an islamic state is at all influenced negatively by islam. That doesn't make sense, don't be so silly.

Also, please don't be under the silly impression that they are doing this because of something they got from the Koran.
Its followers are said to be influenced by the Koranic phrase which says: "Anyone who is not governed by what Allah has revealed is among the transgressors."

Lots of peaceful pictures in that link I sent of trashed homes and vehicles. Remember, while we were all upset over a dozen white people killed in France this group was meanwhile killing 2000 people. Peacefully, though. Very peacefully they died.

The modern Islamic fundamentalist movements have their origins in the late 19th century.[27] The Wahhabi movement, an Arabian fundamentalist movement that began in the 18th century, gained traction and spread during the 19th and 20th centuries.[28] During the Cold War following World War II, some NATO governments, particularly those of the United States and the United Kingdom, launched covert and overt campaigns to encourage and strengthen fundamentalist groups in the Middle East and southern Asia. These groups were seen as a hedge against potential expansion by the atheistic Soviet Union, and as a means to prevent the growth of nationalistic movements that were not necessarily favorable toward the interests of the Western nations.[29] By the 1970s the Islamists had become important allies in supporting governments, such as Egypt, which were friendly to U.S. interests. By the late 1970s, however, some fundamentalist groups had become militaristic leading to threats and changes to existing regimes. The overthrow of the Shah in Iran and rise of the Ayatollah Khomeini was one of the most significant signs of this shift.[30] Subsequently fundamentalist forces in Algeria caused a civil war, caused a near-civil war in Egypt, and caused the downfall of the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan.[31] In many cases the military wings of these groups were supplied with money and arms by the U.S. and U.K.

That is supplementary information; islam is highly correlated with terrorism and murder today, but NATO is partly responsible for it being so violent.

It's like you want to say the US is responsible, but some part of you rejects that and replaces it with NATO or "the West"
But the easiest is to just blame Islam

It's rare I see such cognitive dissonance. You are quite committed to it.

Do you communicate with people in real life? Does "no I'm not, you are" work for you with your peers?
It's hard for me a lot of times to imagine there is an adult on the other side of the convo here

People I communicate with in real life don't respond to discussions with tangential points not germane to the immediate subject. I enjoy turning people's words back on them when a simple switch of words points out the shortcoming of their argument. I point out how islam is, today, responsible for the deaths of thousands and your response is that the US played a role in its radicalization decades ago, as if that point negates the other.

Perhaps you should realize why you are the main person in this thread and most have given up talking to you.

I'd like to believe it's because of all the facts discrediting your beliefs that some have started to realize they are wrong.

But you are right, I can't even begin to imagine what other posters believe
I don't have that disability

Lack of empathy:1 sign of being a sociopath.

Upon what evidence do you base this? How many posts have you read of people who have changed their views because of what you've said?
But you are right, I can't even begin to imagine what other posters believe
I don't have that disability
In your first post you implied a belief in what others think, in the second said that you don't and called it a disability.

I think your mind doesn't work very logically, which is why pretty much everybody in this thread disagrees with you on islam.

And as schmuckley stated, empathy is not a disability except in the views of a sociopath. I don't think you are a sociopath, though; merely your grasp of logic isn't as strong as you think it is.
