well no more arguing i totally agree with you guys, i wont stand up anymore either to be a badass, i am going to go piss on my flag too
The Supreme Court of the USA has already ruled that it is NOT mandatory to stand or salute the flag.

That girl is not disrespecting the flag by sitting - likely her religon or conscience forbids her from saluting the flag or saying the Pledge.

And she has a lot of "conviction" to sit while EVERYBODY ELSE is standing.

it said 'nerve' when i read it. i was going to say nerve=courage.

Generalizations like that one make ATOT what it is.

You should hear my kids say it. You should hear their school say it. Its enough to put a lump in your throat.

Its all what you learn. Someone who understands sacrifice and courage would at least stand.

Hey... people. Stop ripping this guy a new one. None of you seem to be able to read... he doesn't want to force her to say the pledge, he's saying that it's disrespectful for her to not at least stand up. Yeah, you aren't going to be able to force anybody to do anyhting, that's why our country is great. But disrespecting the flag is also disrepsecting all those who died to give her the right not to say the pledge. It's disrespecting those who die every day in the service of our country.

Jeeze.. you guys need to slow down and read a little.

thank you, my lord they say i dont read their damn posts....

I totally understood that you just want her to stand but you STILL haven't realized that is going against the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES. You love this country so much but you need to understand the Constitution FIRST.

Personally im sorta sick of this random patriotism bullsh*t. A couple bad things happen and all of a sudden people are patriots? That is fake to me. I didnt see anyone being this patriotic before.

READ OUR POSTS before you pop-off like that. Forcing her to stand is just as much an infringement on her freedom as is making her say the pledge. You cannot force respect, attempting to force respect only generates resent. I don't care if it's "just standing up", it's still feedom of speech. Any infringement on that is a dangerous precident that sets us down the slippery slope towards fascism.

Big fricken deal. I don't say the pledge. Yes, I stand up, but I wouldn't feel bad about sitting down while it was being recited. Its nothing more than a silly poem, and I get no nationalk "pride" out of sayin it or hearing. I can respect the thousands of men and women who died for our country in ways more profound than saying a few lines that I may or may not agree with.

i know it is TECHNICALLY agaisnt the constitution, but christ, cant even stand??? thats something that i cannot stomache. maybe i am an ignorant asshole, but that just pains me to see her sitting there and i think of veterans and how they would feel if they saw her.

Hey that's sorta like when kids from other religions go to catholic schools 🙂... but it doesn't piss anyone off.... 😀

When did common decency get a place in the Constitution? She has the right to do whatever she wants. You have the right to take the flag and use it to wash your car. It's simply a matter of respect and personal decency.

it's great that you have a national sense of pride, but it is NOT your place to force your pride onto others. leave her alone or GTFOH. i can't think of anything more un-american than forcing people to do things.

just a piece of cloth?? why dont you GTFOH you ignorant prick

haha this is rich, you're calling me ignorant? you're calling me a prick? who's the one that thinks citizens should be required to stand up for the flag? nazi.

it IS just a piece of cloth, you fool. you exemplify the dangers of nationalism. a piece of cloth has now been elevated to a higher status than personal freedom.

I don't think anyone should be forced to recite the pledge. However, I think in good taste and respect, everyone should atleast acknowledge the flag and all that it stands for...

I have to disagree with you there...so much history and pride is in that piece of "cloth". What you just said was very disrespectful since I am going to school to become an officer in the military. I will be fighting for you freedoms that you just seem to take for granted. I am actually taking nicks side now since so many people aren't showing the proper respect for anything anymore. In high school I have seen many people who refuse to stand for the pledge. It does make me mad, yet they could at least show some kind of respect by standing and not talking during it or making funny jokes. Stuff like this just pisses me off....

Respect has nothing to do with this.

He wants the person to stand. If you understand the Constitution then you would know this would violate it if they are forced to. No one has any idea why the girl doesn't stand so you can't comment on personal decency or respect.

Maybe she feels that she can respect the american ideals and people who have fought for them in other ways than standing up for the reciting of a pledge.

Look, I agree with your feelings. It would really burn me too, but if I start forcing people to "respect" something that I love, then I become infinitely worse than the person I am forcing.

Once again do you still feel they should be required to stand? If so you have learned NOTHING!!!!

It does not BURN me up because I have no idea why the person doesn't stand. On top of that, it is NONE OF MY BUSINESS WHY SOMEONE DOESN'T STAND!!!!!

It is their personal freedom so sit. It makes me happy that we have the freedom to do so. I am so happy there aren't more people you around.
