They died for her right to NOT be forced to recite a pledge. Freedom of speech includes freedom of no speech as well.

And did you know that if she's a Jehovah's Witness, she cannot say the pledge?

The lack of respect does bother me. I guess it kind of depends on how she does it, and defends herself of her actions. Everybody should read "Nothing But the Truth" by Avi, (if they haven't already in middle school). I think both sides are blowing things out of proportion here.

LOL. My father fought in WWII, and I offered up my life in the army so that we could be free. May I remind you that there have ALWAYS been people who would not, or could not say the pledge, be it for religious, or political beliefs? That's what this country was founded on. Freedom. Not forcing others to repeat mindless, empty oaths.

well, we don't know that she is refusing to stand as a sign of disrepect for veterans... it could very well be an entirely different reason.

You fail to realize that by FORCING this girl to even standup during the pledge, you are infringing upon her rights as an American. The founders of our country designed the Constitution so that people like yourself couldn't force people like this girl to act or believe in anything they didn't want to. This being said, she is probably just doing this to be "anti", but you don't know. She could be a Jehova's Witness... JWs don't say the pledge as they believe by doing so they are participating in idol worship, which is strictly forbidden by the Bible.

Before getting pissed and flaming this girl, you may want to figure out why she is doing what she is doing. Keep an open mind... it'll be helpful when you get to college.
