think of how they would feel if they knew people like you wanted to force her to stand.

you know, probably not as bad, not at all
You're going to have to choose your loyalty here. To your country, or to your country's Ideals. I choose the ideas, and am therefore forced to defend her right to sit. Just for referrence, the Supreme Court has repeatedly shot down mandated Pledges.

Hey... people. Stop ripping this guy a new one. None of you seem to be able to read... he doesn't want to force her to say the pledge, he's saying that it's disrespectful for her to not at least stand up. Yeah, you aren't going to be able to force anybody to do anyhting, that's why our country is great. But disrespecting the flag is also disrepsecting all those who died to give her the right not to say the pledge. It's disrespecting those who die every day in the service of our country.

Jeeze.. you guys need to slow down and read a little.

he said she needs to stand or GTFOH. that means he believes that citizens should be required to stand.

I agree with what totally with what MacBaine said. Gopunk, are you ever going to serve in the military or fight for your freedoms?

i am not going to join the military as of now. i got accepted to a college where i get a scholarship to run, etc. if the time comes, hell yeah, ill be the first one to sign up

Why not join ROTC in college?

it's great that you have a national sense of pride, but it is NOT your place to force your pride onto others. leave her alone or GTFOH. i can't think of anything more un-american than forcing people to do things.

I have to disagree with you there...so much history and pride is in that piece of "cloth". What you just said was very disrespectful since I am going to school to become an officer in the military. I will be fighting for you freedoms that you just seem to take for granted. I am actually taking nicks side now since so many people aren't showing the proper respect for anything anymore. In high school I have seen many people who refuse to stand for the pledge. It does make me mad, yet they could at least show some kind of respect by standing and not talking during it or making funny jokes. Stuff like this just pisses me off....

no, so much history and pride is in what that piece of cloth represents. it is entirely possible she is patriotic and shows her patriotism in more tangible forms than saluting a flag.

and f*ck you, where do i take freedoms for granted? it seems to me those that would force people to show what they deem to be a proper form of respect are those that take our freedoms for granted.

Thats cool. I am taking ROTC right now and I will definitely defend my country when the time comes. You know what the funny thing is, I used to be a German Citizen. I stand for the pledge and say it because I feel pride in this country. I guess some of you seem to feel that all these freedoms are handed to you on a golden platter.

READ OUR POSTS before you pop-off like that. Forcing her to stand is just as much an infringement on her freedom as is making her say the pledge. You cannot force respect, attempting to force respect only generates resent. I don't care if it's "just standing up", it's still feedom of speech. Any infringement on that is a dangerous precident that sets us down the slippery slope towards fascism.

ZV

Nobody is forcing her to stand up. We're saying that it's disrepectful for her to not at least honor those who died defending her rights. It is a personal matter, and nick has every right to be disgusted with her conduct as she has every right to sit down. You people need to sto pyelling 'Unconstitutional' when it doesn't even apply.

well no more arguing i totally agree with you guys, i wont stand up anymore either to be a badass, i am going to go piss on my flag too
The Supreme Court of the USA has already ruled that it is NOT mandatory to stand or salute the flag.

That girl is not disrespecting the flag by sitting - likely her religon or conscience forbids her from saluting the flag or saying the Pledge.

And she has a lot of "conviction" to sit while EVERYBODY ELSE is standing.

it said 'nerve' when i read it. i was going to say nerve=courage.
"Courage' might have been what I was "searching" for. 😉

It doesn't matter what ANYONE here thinks about that girl. It is her RIGHT to sit quietly - not disturbing anyone that wants to say the pledge - as GUARANTEED by the US Constitution and REAFFIMED by the US Supreme Court.

😛

on the contrary, certain people in this thread are saying that she SHOULD be forced to stand, or lose her citizenship.

He has said she SHOULD BE FORCED TO AT LEAST STAND. He isn't just saying it makes him sick. Even if it makes him sick it is stupid because he has no idea why she doesn't stand.

Ok, apologies on my part too. I shouldn't be pushing what I believe on other people, yet I do believe that respect is needed for all the people. I think unless we ask that girl, we will never find out why she didn't stand.

I think you should mind your own business.

It is NOT disrespectful.

And you clearly have "problems" of your own. 😛
