I see more Porsches here than 'Vettes in Boston, but I see a lot of Vettes too. 😕

My point is that comparing a Mustang to a Vette is a little ridiculous. By the numbers you should be seeing five Mustangs to every Vette. Unless you have an inordinate concentration of Vettes in your area, your comparison doesn't make much sense.

Besides that the Vette is close to twice the price of a Mustang. It would be like saying a Camaro SS is the same as a Honda Fit.

Depends on his definition of a sports car, but there is also the CTS-V to consider. The Vette is a safe choice as the maintenance is cheap, drive-train is simple, and parts are affordable.

I've owned a Vette, and I'm going to have to say that it's not even in the same class as many of the cars in this discussion. Cheap performance, sure, but also in this rice range is the GT-R, Porsches, and Aston Martins. If he was looking at performance as his sole decider, auto wouldn't be a requirement. So we know he at least wants some luxury.

Exactly.

You don't like the Mustang comparison? I'm sorry but you do know the high end Mustangs ARE compared directly to the Corvette right?

🙄

Either way, both are pretty poor examples of "livin' it up".

a high end mustang would get compared because they priced as high as lower end vette's

thats about where it ends.

if corvettes are a dime a dozen, then a mustang is a camry/accord of 'sports cars'

you can get into a mustang for 22k, vettes base msrp is 48K, and the base stang offeres no where near the level of performance the vette does

No, the Mustang compares to the Corvette because there are enough similarities and the Mustang actually handles well enough to be in the same comparison.

No cars compare to each other simply because of the price. A Nissan GT-R does not compare to a Lexus LS nor does it compare to a Mercedes S-Class.

Corvettes and Mustangs are pointless to put in this category because he wants some up-class vehicle. They're not bad cars, just common.

a mustang is a tier below the corvette. period.

parhaps it should be pointed out that you see more Vette's than low end porsches is because the vette outperforms them and has lower maintenance cost.

you want an 'exclusive' sports car, I'm sorry but its a Lotus, or go pretty used for a ferrari/lambo in this price range. I certainly can't afford a car in this level and have some envy for safeway that he can, but exclusivity in exotics starts around 110K with the 911 turbo

no where does he say he doesnt want common either. he specified a price range, and a car type. maybe you should re-read the thread.

my friends dad is a very well off lawyer, and when he wanted to 'live it up' and 'get a sports car' he bought a brand new miata. live it up is subjective, and since he didnt say 'mjinz's version of live it up' you can stop trying to push your view on to the thread. I'm sure if he says, no vettes, than others will stop recommending it as it will no longer fit the bill of the OP

That's fine and all but the whole point of these discussions is pushing your own views, not holding hands and singing kumbaya.

Yeah, I'm sure your father will listen to a bunch of geeks on a computer hardware forum. He'll end up with a boring Toyota something.

Or maybe it's about suggesting things that the person might actually like and enjoy? This isn't about what YOU like, it's about what the person that's looking at buying a new car would like.

There's a lot of choice in that market OP. You still gotta narrow it down. Does your dad want something soft (relatively) like a Jag XK? Or something to shatter teeth like a Z06?

didnt know they revamped it again

last one was balls, know 3 people with them, 2 hate them, one loves it

the one, its his first non FF 'sports car'

he means the boxster spyder.

and uh the cayman and the boxster are basically the same car, i've driven them both on the track and thats really the only place i could tell the difference in stiffness

Jaguar XKR Convertible- I'd buy used as they depreciate like rocks.

It can hold a few sets of golf clubs unlike a Cayman/Boxster.

Mercedes CLK550 or CLK63 - Convertible

2011 is dead sexy and 2010 models are going for big discounts especially used.
400HP or 500HP and very refined!

Mercedes SL5550 - If there is no need for a backseat and a nice Hard Top Convertible.

Mercedes CL550 or CL63 - big coupe that is amazingly refined and unknowingly sporty.
