Recommendations for Vacuum

NaOH

Alright, my apartment is getting really dirty and its a hassle to borrow my friends vacuum everytime i need to vacuum. So i want to pick one up from my local wal-mart or target. So I ask you guys, what is a good brand and model? I don't care about bagless or not. I just want it to at least have a hepa filter. Something durable and will not lose sucking power. Thanks

I have a 300 dollar Hoover that was bought over 5 years ago with a Hepa filter - it's never lost suction.

Works great on bare floors and berber/level loop. Performance decreases on thick shag carpeting.

Even if it doesn't do as well as an upright, I let Roomba run around on a weekly basis, which is a hell of a lot more often than I ran my upright before I got the Roomba.

Hey guys, I want a vacuum, but please don't recommend any of these good ones, ok? Thanks!

If you're just picking up a cheap vacuum based solely on price, I don't think you need too much advice.

I'm not looking to spend a fortune on a damned vacuum. I'm a college student and just want a decent vacuum I can pick up locally on the spot. There has to be pros and cons on various vacuums you can get at these stores. It doesn't have to be completely perfect.

So stfu.

Option 1
Pro: Cheap
Con: Works like crap

Option 2
Pro: Works well
Con: Not cheap

Tada!

No kidding, genius....
You don't tell someone looking for a budget computer to buy an FX60 do you? How hard is it for you to comprehend. Also, for my uses a cheaper vacuum would probably be a better buy since it's only for a small apartment and I live with only one other person....

You're not quite the sharpest tool in the shed, are you?

We have a dirt devil from target, and it is completely adequate in creating a low pressure area that draws dirt and other debris away from the fibres of our carpet.

I would consider a roomba if not for the $2xx price tag. Hoover or dirt devil sounds promising. Which one would be more durable?

lol then buy the cheapest one and overclock that mutha.....

if its just a small apartment, buy the cheapest one. check yard sales if youre not too proud. our first vac we bought for 10 bucks was a early 80s hoover. we got 8 yrs out of it, and only had to replace it because the handle broke.

Life isn't that simple. Do you really believe that a $2000 Rainbow works fifty times better than the $40 Wal-Mart special?

To the OP: As a college student on a budget, your best price/performance ratio will be buying USED. Check out your local thrift stores, craigslist, and ebay.

Actually, I prove to be more wise as I do not go trolling through a vacuum thread just because someone refuses to buy a $5xx vacuum. Get it through your head that I am only looking for a DECENT vacuum for a DECENT price that I can PICK UP locally. I do not own a home and this is only for keeping the place tidy. Maybe when I have my own place I will pick up a better vacuum but who knows when that is... jesus

No, it's not that simple across the whole spectrum. But since he's limited himself to the value-line at Wal-Mart/Target, he doesn't have lots of options. He has yet to offer up a price range, other than "Those expensive ones are too much."

Not much advice you can give on that. I'd be willing to bet than most $50 general-purpose vacuums are basically all the same.

we have a Dyson because we need one - we have a house with 4 dogs.

If I had no pets living in an apartment, I'd be looking for a cheapo too.

How about this?

Customers reviews look pretty good.

I'm happy with my Bissell. If I remember correctly I paid around $120 at Meijers. It has a HEPA filter and its bagless.

I possibly might do ebay if I can get a dyson for a somewhere around $120. But, all i was asking was about the brands and models that I can get at target etc. Like pros and cons (since many of you buy those expensive models I suspect you may have experience with those cheaper models as well). If all those models work pretty much the same then I'll just go out to buy whatever looks like the best perf/price at my local wal mart.
