Recommend me some newer games...please.

It's not new, but Hard Reset is one of my favorite FPS. It can be had for really cheap these days.

I also agree...Serious Same 3 BFE is another solid choice. Older, but great.

Thanks for the Hard Reset recommendation. Looks fairly decent.

If you liked Wolf:TNO then you will definitely enjoy TOB. Essentially the same mechanics compressed into a 10 hour whirlwind. Less/no down time in hubs and more straightforward action. The game sets up and perfectly melds into the beginning of TNO as well.

If you enjoy sneak shooters then you should really look into Deus Ex (Human Revolution and maybe Mankind Divided).

Yeah, I see that same argument about a few games. IMO, RPG games can be FPS...with a script. To me, HL and HL2 were that way...which is fine. A good story line can make killing everyone/everything in your way more enjoyable...

well you might enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 whenever it comes out...should be some time next year. It's from the Witcher people and it is all FPS (maybe some 3rd person sequences when action stuff is involved. don't know...none of that confirmed or really suggested yet. Probably just wishful thinking on my part).

Anyway, it looks to be amazing and nearly everyone has a reason to expect it to be because CDPR may be the last reliable studio out there when it comes to delivering a great product. There's also a ~40 minutes gameplay demo from last year floating around somewhere.

I'd suggest trying that out when it releases and if you like it, maybe try out the Witcher. I know you don't like RPG/non-FPS, but Witcher 3 is such a solid action game with a great character-driven story and world. I wager it's the kind of content that you would like. Witcher 2 is on rails and really takes some time to get into it and not get angry (one of the earlier major fights, in particular, is annoyingly hard), but it is a great game. Warning though: contains Quick Time Events. D:

Now that I once again own a fairly decent gaming machine, (i-7 9700K, RTX 2070) it's time for some games...

My preference is single-player, FPS. I don't care if the game has multi-player, as long as it has a GOOD single-player mode.

One semi-recent FPS game I've been absolutely loving like crazy is Dishonored 2. Loved the original as well, and this one is a natural evolution which improves on basically everything.

For me personally I love them because they're the only games that have managed to reproduce the stealth system from the original Thief games which are my all time favourite games. But they also give you the option to play a combat role by dividing up the skill tree and weapons into lethal and non lethal, so even if you don't have a thing for stealth they're incredibly fun to play. From a combat point of view the abilities have really good synergy so you can combine weapons and powers to pull off some utterly crazy combat moves. I actually cannot think of 1 bad thing about Dishonored 2 so far.

If you do decide to play and you've not played the original I'd advise you pick that up first and play them in order, the original is only £8 on steam. There's also DLC expansions

The same studio also made Prey which is slightly older but also an incredible game which I highly recommend. They're now making the new Wolfenstein which I fully expect to be just as epic. They're the only studio right now that I see as contenders to Rockstar for putting out reliably good games every few years.

I just picked up world war z. It truly is the spiritual successor to l4d if you are into that series. The only downside is it's 3rd person. I swear they hired some of the l4d voice actors. Or maybe it's the Woodford talking.

Let's set a bar here: when you suggest a series that Boomer might be "familiar with," it would probably have to date before Pong...but to be perfectly honest you're looking at pin games.

I remember more than a few that you could hit just below the game counter and rack up free games. New-fangled computerized games ended that.

So far, I've picked up Metro Exodus, (looks nice, gameplay seems...klunky) and signed up for Origin's basic vault. That gives me access to 195 games I'll never even consider, and a handful I've wanted to try.
Still undecided about CoD WWII. Mixed reviews on the single player campaign.

Picked up Hard Reset and Hard Reset Redux today for $1.99 in a Steam sale. haven't played either, but saw a few vids on Youtube and it looks fun...besides, for $1.99 (plus tax of course) 🙁 how could I pass?

I recently picked up Metro Exodus and I agree with you about the clunky gameplay. I haven't played PC games for several years and I just got back into it and so far I've tried AC:Origins and Metro Exodus. I'm having trouble in both games trying to get my controls to feel natural. I feel like these games are designed for a controller rather than keyboard+mouse.

It's weird. Post 40 doesn't show any quote, and quotes of ignored people have usually shown in posts. Also it used to show a message that there was a hidden post, now it doesn't.
It's been that way since at least December of 2017, when you questioned my sanity because you had Ns1 on ignore.

Are you sure that's the ONLY reason he questioned your sanity?
