Mythbusters did it on TV. After the filtering, only the vodka expert could tell the difference, and even then he said it was very close. However, after using $16 worth of Brita filters you realize the stupidity of this exercise. You might as well just spend $16 more and get good vodka to begin with (and avoid all the time and effort wasted).Originally posted by: crownjules
A bunch of guys did a test, might be a YouTube video. They took a cheap $10 handle of store brand vodka, the kind that tastes like rubbing alcohol, and ran it through a Brita. After four filters, the vodka tasted pretty much like the more reputable brands. I can't remember if they compared it to something like Smirnoff or Grey Goose, although I want to say the later.

Really, what does that do when you filter it through a Brita?

Um, it filters it...
But what is it filtering? Maybe there is something here I don't understand.

I've always hated clear liqour, especially vodka. But Sat night, the girl I went out with kept drinking a vodka by "Stoli) (sp?). she talked me into trying it and it was REALLY good. Very smooth, none of that "smells and tastes like you're drinking rubbing alcohol" feeling.

Yes, but I paid a high price. She took me back to her place and made me watch a chick flick first (Love Actually). It was well worth it though because she said "I'm not looking for a relationship, this is just animal attration. I hope you're okay with that."......ummmmm fvck yeah!
It's bad too because she's new here (came down from Michagan a month ago) and works with my ex gf! Revenge fvck FTW!

Grey Goose is the most overrated vodka in the world. They make it look all fancy and foreign. Look up it's origins and you would be shocked and surprised.
I am a Stoli man.

it is my friends bday tomorrow and we are headed for Palm Springs for the weekend. One of the things i want to get him is a really good bottle of Vodka. We normally just buy the huge bottles of Grey Goose from Costco and we love it, nothing more in a vodka is really needed especially since we rarely drink it straight however i want an expensive bottle of vodka but at the same time a good one. One that we can drink straight is prob what i am looking for.
Not sure what stores would carry such things anyway other than Beverages & More in the San Fernando Valley. That is where i am headed to later so if anyone can tell me what to look for, a specific brand, or anything would help
-edit-
most of you said to go with GG. I do not WANT GG. I LOVE GG but it is like the Patron of the Tequila world, great tasting but common and not expensive (compared) to other ultra premium tequilas like Don Fernando which is upwards of $200 a bottle, or Milagro etc.
GG, Belvedere, Level, Chopin, etc are all good but they are all $40-50 (for the large costco bottles) i am looking to spend upwards of $200 on a single 750ml bottle
Picture of most of the alcohol i have at home right now, i obviously do not need more GG lol

Grey Goose is pretty much the top of the heap as far as vodkas go.
I drink it straight up after being shaken with ice. I wouldn't add mixer to GG that's for sure. That's why Skyy vodka is for.
