Having grown up as a high school student that had to live through the popularity of gangsta rap at it's peak I have to disagree. Nirvana ushered in the end of gangsta rap being the most popular music in America. For that alone, they deserve our thanks.

Have you been asleep since 1995?

you listed the wrong 5 songs:

1. Strange Days
2. Light My Fire
3. Riders On The Storm
4. L.A. Woman
5. Road House Blues

I listed the right five, but you got one of them right (from my list): Riders on the Storm.

Light my Fire is a good, smooth, chart topper, but not what I'd use to make the case.

I'd add "Spanish Caravan" to that list as well. I was hugely into The Doors my soph - senior years of high school. I truly appreciated the musicianship in that band. Between Robby's fluid guitar work and Ray's ability to play keyboard with his hands and bass with his feet. Damn...

Not sure how overrated any band is, I just know what I like and what I don't like. I cannot stand Radiohead, but clearly there's an audience for them, same for Metallica, wouldn't listen to them, ever, yet they are highly acclaimed, and have a HUGE audience.
On person's art is another persons crap.
Oh and if you're a Beatles fan, especially an early Beatles fan, check out the books "The Beatles: All These Years" It spans over several volumes and covers The Beatles becoming The Beatles. If you like that stuff, it's phenomenal.

Sounds like our taste shares some things.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Most of these entries are just bands you don't like, not bands that are rated higher than they should be.

Also, one of the most underrated artists, imo, is Taylor Swift. I am not a fan of pop music, but denying her talent is just lunacy. She writes her own songs and consistently puts out chart topping pop hits. Who else does that?

How can you have the following awards to your name and be considered anywhere close to underrated?

10 Grammy Awards
19 American Music Award
11 Country Music Association Awards
8 Academy of Country Music Awards
22 Billboard Music Awards
1 Brit Award
1 Emmy

seriously, the most overrated band of all time are The Rolling Stones. they are mediocre at best - going to downright awful on some songs, like ruby tuesday. And yet they are still considered one of the greatest bands of all time, above people like, idk, jimi hendrix experience, deep purple, pink floyd, or other bands who actually knew how to play their instruments (and get a decent sound engineer).
Satisfaction is garbage.

I do think the Stones are pretty overrated. There are like two of their songs that don't make me want to turn them off now, Sympathy for the Devil and Gimme Shelter.

Oh, come on, they are the world's best Black Crowes tribute band.
