And some people say Donald Trump would be the greatest president every.

Pearls before swine. Not everyone can appreciate the Doors obviously.

I think you misunderstood. EVERYONE appreciates The Doors (thus them not being underrated .....)

Genesis in the post Peter Gabriel era is too obvious so I'll say Elton John. People celebrate him for his flamboyance but his music catalog is trite pop empty calories.

This is one of the most insanely inaccurate threads ever on ATOT, and obviously that is saying a lot. Its almost as if music taste is subjective.

First, read the comment I was replying to.

Second, underrated doesn't mean not having some appreciation.

Imagine saying 'bacon is pretty good'.

That's underrated.

The perversity in this thread has been overwhelming. Led Zeppelin (sorry, "Led Zeplin") listed? The Doors? Jim Morrison a phony, the band a phony? The Beatles?

I'm disgusted.

But, if anyone wants to actually be able to say whether the Doors are great - ok, this is really a test of your taste in music - listen to these five songs. THEN you have a say.

1. Touch Me
2. The End
3. When the Music's Over
4. Riders on the Storm
5. Five to One

After listening to those five, you will have heard songs allowing an opinion. Good or bad.

I'd add "Spanish Caravan" to that list as well. I was hugely into The Doors my soph - senior years of high school. I truly appreciated the musicianship in that band. Between Robby's fluid guitar work and Ray's ability to play keyboard with his hands and bass with his feet. Damn...

Not sure how overrated any band is, I just know what I like and what I don't like. I cannot stand Radiohead, but clearly there's an audience for them, same for Metallica, wouldn't listen to them, ever, yet they are highly acclaimed, and have a HUGE audience.
On person's art is another persons crap.
Oh and if you're a Beatles fan, especially an early Beatles fan, check out the books "The Beatles: All These Years" It spans over several volumes and covers The Beatles becoming The Beatles. If you like that stuff, it's phenomenal.

you listed the wrong 5 songs:

1. Strange Days
2. Light My Fire
3. Riders On The Storm
4. L.A. Woman
5. Road House Blues

Do I really need to? I wrote it.

I feel like I am having an out of body experience here.

No matter. There is important stuff brewing elsewhere on the proper sneezing technique (the proper wiping style is still up for debate as well).

There's really only one choice, and that's U2. Is there a good U2 song? And if there is, why does no one ever play it?

If Kanye was a band he'd win though.

I would rather have back surgery without anesthesia than listen to a Rush song.

Yes, ELP & in particular Rush are if anything under-rated in terms of talent and musical innovation.

I'm gonna say most prog rock is overrated by it's fans and grossly underrated by everyone else.

U2 the most genuinely overrated band of all time. God I can't stand them and I used to like some of their stuff. Over time it just got worse and worse.

Any hiphop / rap crap. Anything made with a "beat box" rather then real practiced musicians.

As long as you have no shame you can accomplish anything. I think this is the number one lesson that can be learned from modern society.

I'm not much of a U2 fan either, but they have a few good songs. Rattle and Hum is a decent album. Still, they went pretty mainstream a long time ago which probably turned a lot of people off.

War is actually a really good album. Joshua Tree may seem overrated by some people, but listening to the album there's not a single filler track, which is unusual especially these days. Achtung Baby was their last album I actually liked, and I appreciated them trying to change their style up.

I do not disagree with this.

talk about an underrated/underappreciated band today. As good as the Beatles became, they owe all of that to Dylan and the Beach Boys, honestly.

You can hear so much of Pet Sounds on Sgt Peppers (and even the White Album). But both are awesome.

Brian Wilson played in Oregon a couple months ago and I was pissed that I missed it. Man is a genius.

"Real Country" is crap. It's basically pop music with a drunk singer. Seriously. People over the age of 25 think this is music. The marketing department for this genre amazes me to this day.

As good as Nirvana's good songs were, they had some shit ones. They are the definition of overrated. Every teeny bopper "rebel" "punk" thinks Cobain is some of gift to music.

Having grown up as a high school student that had to live through the popularity of gangsta rap at it's peak I have to disagree. Nirvana ushered in the end of gangsta rap being the most popular music in America. For that alone, they deserve our thanks.

Cobain isn't good if you do not appreciate song writing. He actually was a good lyricist. No Warren Haynes but still good.

As for their music, I have at one time loved every album. it's a bit of an acquired taste but I enjoyed it.
