A snus forum I belong to has more women than AT does. Think about that for a second... A forum devoted to oral tobacco has more women than AT! What are you losers doing wrong? :^D

I got here years ago when I was searching for an answer to some issue I was having at the time in my IT career. I'm proud to be a woman and be in the IT field - going on 13 years now. It's not an easy path, but if you like a challenge, it's great (just like being part of ATOT)! :p

There's no reason the average Internet-using female would end up on this website, much less take the time to register an account.

Motions to raise the level of discourse are great, but people often get too idealistic about what they've got. It's a tech site. The population will be overwhelmingly male and overwhelmingly young. Cater to them, not to your ideals.

I sense smugness. Add that to the reason list. Smugness abounds here. It has even nurtured my own smugness.

Because this site has very little to offer your average female internet user…it also doesn’t help that the forums are largely filled with argumentative, mean-spirited, self-absorbed shut-ins who would rather +postcount than do anything in real life.

anandtech is the only site i can acces at my work wich has a forum.

Some how asus lets us use these forum. For what i dunno.

So i found this site on our web acces list,. Tried all sites. Most are like amd.com intel.com ati.com mmm anandtech.com sounds interesting.

But indeed not many females are that into computers to register to a forum for it. I think some here at my work scroll around this forum aswell but i dunno for sure.

Smug or not, he does have a point.
OT is the most popular forum on this board. I am sure it contains the most ppd. OT is not techy, as we have a bajillion subforms for that.

I wonder why a female would even want to post in OT. Some of you guys aren't welcoming, which is what I'm trying to get to the root of.

Who would rather no females posted here at all? A poll would be very telling.

Yeah, oddly enough these forums don't register as forums on the filter at my work, either.
So I can access them without using up my 60 min quota.
So sad :( :D

Never heard of a workplace giving an internet quota, how do they track it?

Way to generalize :(

I'm very welcoming. Well, except when I think the new user is a spammer. But that's only if they have a suspicious sig link, no avatar, and a seemingly random/generated post.

But yeah, you do get a lot of people posting "pics?" and other crap that they think is funny (but isn't).

There is a reason why alot of the guys here spend Friday nights alone with a big bottle of lotion and hand towels. I guess even on the internet women find them repulsive.

AT is the only real forum that I frequent so I don't know but aren't all forums pretty much full of people with attitudes? There's not avoiding it on the internet. That said, I doubt it has much to do with whether or not a female would join.

This. Most of the posters here are in IT or development and those are male dominated fields.

FWIW I used to post on a hockey forum that ended up dominated by women, and I left. You hit a critical mass of estrogen and you just don't feel like reading any more posts about what a nice ass Scott Stevens has.

It's Websense. They have a time-based quota option. I think they essentially act as a proxy, tracking time spent online per day in addition to blocking sites by category. It expires at midnight, resets to 60 minutes. Each time I click the "use quota" button it automatically uses 10 minutes, though, which can quickly eat up the 60 minutes when I check my email, accounts, etc. from time to time.

I nef on AT at night when I'm at work when there isn't much to do or if I have trouble staying awake.
