We don't need to log in or create an account unless we are applying for benefits or changing our direct deposit bank correct?
Or if you want to check on your account. We don't need to log in or create an account unless we are applying for benefits or changing our direct deposit bank correct?
The goal is supposed to be make the process sensible, consistent, efficient in designing a system for users, particularly unskilled users but it's the opposite with the henchmen who are doing Trump's dirty work here in attempting to make life difficult for SS recipients. After prodding, I finally got the wife to set up her login.gov so she could access her SS account. She had never logged into either, as she got hers all setup over the phone, years ago.
Completely different experience than I had, never had to submit pictures of her driver's license or selfie.
She's not a computer whiz, but a competent user and used a computer at work before she retired, but still needed a little "guidance". I will now find something to do in a different part of the house for a while, to give us both a little space. By design, me maw doesn't stand a chance.
And even on the SSA site, things display differently. If I click on "check earnings records" it takes me to a screen where I can download a PDF document. Her account, it just displays her earning record on the screen, with no option to download a PDF. So ctrl-P and save as PDF.
I think that is correct... but what about when bank A merges with bank B and the routing and transit number or your account number changes? We don't need to log in or create an account unless we are applying for benefits or changing our direct deposit bank correct?
OH. Didn't know that. So, what I went through yesterday was for nothing? AFAIK, my checking account is solid and I get a SS check DD'd monthly. We don't need to log in or create an account unless we are applying for benefits or changing our direct deposit bank correct?
I was asking for confirmation because of Allisolm's post on page one. Not that I don't trust what she shared but both myself and a family member are on SS and neither of us can afford to miss a check. https://forums.anandtech.com/thread...5-social-security-login.2628867/post-41424463OH. As I posted above. Checking for mistakes.so if we're nowhere near social security age....still worth doing all this?
I was able to successfully sign in to the SSA site using my login.gov account. At first it gave "This service is not available error" but a second try logged in fine. "Whew!"I'm an Expat, and the last time I went through accessing via login.gov I had to coordinate with my sister in the states with her mobile as the login.gov doesn't accept foreign mobiles. No I need to check again.
I'm still 9 years out from retirement but keep checking the page every now and then to look for any significant changes.

and here's to another 3600 hours!Had an issue. Since I changed phones and used Microsoft Auth it would not bring over any previous set ups. When re-creating manually I could not get back in Login.gov to do it.
Had to delete the entire account, reset up with Google Auth for Login.gov tied to email so I will never lose it again.
Now SSA says I have two accounts and cant use same Login. Granted its only been 36 hours.
Thanks. I printed out my SS statement the other day (3/29/35), just downloaded the PDF of it, all via access to my newly created www.login.gov account.I was asking for confirmation because of Allisolm's post on page one. Someone else posted a topic about logging in and getting your data before Musk starts messing around with the system. It may be worth doing that just to be safe.
No matter how old you are, login and get hard copies of all your Soccial security acct data.
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/03/what-could-possibly-go-wrong-doge-to-rapidly-rebuild-social-security-codebase/ They are going to use ai to do this and this is NOT something that should be taken lightly. Don't ask how or why. Just get your extracts asap.forums.anandtech.com
I too had my old SSA login. Had it probably 20 years or more when I was looking for errors that I did catch.I logged in a few minutes ago. I had an old SSA login. I had to set up a login.gov account. That went smoothly. I had to update my cell number and that also worked with no issues. I downloaded my current statement. Everything seems to be working at the moment. I'm a youth so not eligible to apply for benefits so I didn't try that. I wasn't asked for proof of anything.
Getting SS, voting........The goal is supposed to be make the process sensible, consistent, efficient in designing a system for users, particularly unskilled users but it's the opposite with the henchmen who are doing Trump's dirty work here in attempting to make life difficult for SS recipients.
Since I logged in through ID.me yesterday, they sent me a survey. I told them the first time I got a page not found error when it attempted to return to the SSA site. When I tried it again later, it worked though. Probably an SSA site problem.Just logged into ssa.gov with my ID.me userid and i'm seeing this. I logged in a few minutes ago and got in but they said my benefit information is not available. People are reporting that they did not receive their SS ACH deposits as scheduled or receiving them on a different day. As a retired IT operations tech who used to work in this type of mainframe based enviroment I expected musk and his DOGE boys were making mass changes to the SS databases and changes to SS websites on the fly without testing and would cause massive failures. I was correct. SSA core transactional online and batch processing still uses COBOL programs running on the mainframe systems. All of the "problems" the DOGE boys found were not a problem and were already known from IG audits but it cost to much to change so they didn't. Maybe it's a good thing because all of those MAGA boomers getting SS are going to get pissed and hopefully turn the midterms around.

My bank begs me on it's bill pay to make them automatic. That how apps like Rocket make money, you not keeping tabs.My SSDI ach DD has hit my bank on the third of each month for the last 15 years. The only automatic withdrawal I have set up is with my mortgage on the 4th of each month. I will know if there's not a pending deposit on the 2nd…
Of course I always keep a balance above that just in case. But it wasn't for this fucking case!

When we saw people playing the payday waiting game, we found a way to make payday come early.
If you have a Huntington checking account with direct deposit, you could get your pay up to two days early. No cost. No catch.
If we receive your direct deposit information from your employer prior to payday, we will make your money available to you when we receive it, up to two days early. It’s that simple. No need to sign up. If you qualify, you will automatically receive your pay early††.
