Interesting that you want to decrease competition in the labor market, driving up prices. I thought you guys were all about competition?
I for one find our current xenophobia to be deeply un-American. Actually now that I think about it, xenophobia is very American. Every generation has it's immigrant group that they demonize as heralding the end of the republic. Ben Franklin had his German-Americans, the 1800's had their Chinamen, we later had our Irish and our Italians, and now we have the central american brown scare.
Wait, which side are you on? Aren't leftists the ones who want a "living wage," health benefits, legal protections, and union rights, for all workers? Sounds to me like
you are the one who wants to continue to exploit these laborers in our factories.
There are a lot of people like Eskimospy who like having the brown people scrape out a meager existence in this country so that certain goods and services remain cheap. Besides, where would these people be without a permanent underclass to exploit politically as well?
Maybe you two political geniuses should sit down for a second and see if you can puzzle out how someone can be against draconian border enforcement, but not be for exploitation of laborers in our factories.
Well what else are we to expect of you when all you can muster regarding illegal immigration are mindless cries of xenophobia? Sounds like a cover to me... I think you aim to exploit these people politically and economically.
American nativism and xenophobia has a well established historical precedent, and the views expressed on this forum frequently parrot the arguments put forth by nativist elements in our society. It's hardly mindless, it's an easily identifiable cycle of American history. You should go read about it sometime.
Now you think I'm part of some nefarious scheme to exploit immigrants politically and economically? I'd love to hear what you think the details of my master plan are. Stop being silly about this, you're just trying to find a counter-accusation because the xenophobia charge hits a little close to home.
Once you read up on legal immigrant requirements I would be more than happy to engage you. If, that is, you still have the same opinion. Until then, theres no point. Youre arguing your point against something you know nothing about.
Do you realize that near half of the illegal population were legal?s that did it the right way then chose not to leave when it was time and or otherwise violated their visa?
Did you know you must be the recipient of a job offer from a US company to apply for an H-2 temporary work visa? Do you realize that most all requests for low skill temporary- seasonal workers by US companies are for farm workers?
Even though we are issuing 66,000 such visas a year we still have a shortage of farm workers.
Why?
They come in under the pretext of working for a farmer then jump ship without approval to do other jobs, jobs Americans will do and do do.
Construction companies, hotels, motels, restaurants, manufactures, factories etc? do not petition for low skill temporary- seasonal workers. So when you so all those ?legal?s? occupying such jobs they are likely violating their visas, taking jobs from Americans, jobs they are not supposed business doing, and driving wages and benefits in to the toilet in doing so. Which is adversely affecting America?s own low skill work force because the job market is so saturated they can?t get jobs, end up on welfare which burdens all Americans.
Not only do we need to remove most here illegally we have to make the rules for getting in and getting to stay far more stringent. i.e. Any visa violations should result in immediate deportation with no chance of re-entry.
We are way way to lax in the protection of our sovereignty and way of life, we have completely lost sight of what it is to be a American, we are giving rights and leeway to illegal immigrants that we would never have ourselves.
