People have been using raw eggs for a long time. Supposed to be high protein. You can get an egg protein and not worry about the whole raw thing.

Its possible to get salmonella from raw eggs.
Is it likely? Probably not.

It's recommended to boil them first, but having made protein shakes myself I can say that that is a terrible pain in the ass. Personally I'd either not bother or take my odds with the 1 in 20,000.

Cheaper and safer yet, buy some protein powder. An egg white has only 3-4 grams of protein anyway.

About on in 20,000 eggs will contain salmonella.

More common than that now-a-days I believe.
Either way....I'll pass. I have witnessed Salmonella enteritidis infection firsthand (college roommate). It's not pretty. I'll get my protein elsewhere, thanks.
I had Salmonella for three weeks. Three weeks of absolute hell.

I can imagine. It was bad enough listening to (and smelling) my roomie destroying the bathroom every 30 min. :disgust:

Actually, it's become less common over the past decade or so, now that they give poultry insane amounts of anti-biotics to control such things. Ditto for trichanosis (sp?) That's been virtually eliminated in the United States from domestic pork grown for human consumption.

You sure about that? Antibiotics are looked down upon greatly in the food industry. They kill "good" microorganisms, people have allergies, etc.
