Not to be too critical,
etech but
italics are often hard to distinguish from regular text. In order to avoid confusion . . . particularly when you are
someone try using
or even
bold so weaker minds will not misconstrue you missives.
If we were talking about almost any other topic than a reference to Strom Thurmond's '48 campaign I MIGHT used the word lynch or hanging figuratively. Maybe if we were talking about someone who did not work for a legislator, someone Lott called his mentor, who opposed
anti-lynching legislation . . . I might use the word lynch.
The worst that will happen to Lott is that he's censured by his peers and maybe he resigns from the Senate. I don't use words like lynch or rape figuratively b/c some words are just too ugly for casual consumption.
If you want to take the close relative and say Lott is hanging in the wind that's probably obtuse enough for me. But he climbed up in the tree put the rope around his own neck and then said
"hey look at me".
I'm just part of the gallery saying
"how did he get in that tree with a rope around his neck?"
To which the press responds, "well look at his record."
Of course some in the GOP go, "move along, move along nothing to see here."
And the Dems lament, "damn why couldn't he do that in October?!"
