I was quoting the first sentence of your reply. I put it in italics instead of quotes as is my style sometimes. Please try to pay attention and not make so many assumptions..... err nevermind, I forgot who I was talking to for a minute.

Next thing we're gonna hear is David "the Klan" duke was'nt a racist.

No he's not. Duke is just tired of the white man losing opportunities to wet backs and mud people. Oops, no what he means by that is the federal government should not interfere with state and local government or the activities of private citizens.

One more time . . . Strom was a horrible race baiting toad. He may even harbor some residual beliefs about differences in the races but he has a certifiable record of trying to right past wrongs . . . and he states emphatically that his past was wrong.

Lott has a less distinguished but suspicious history of racial bias. Dave's use of the Congressional Record does not address 1) if the voting rights act/civil rights act are the feds overstepping their bounds what should have been done to protect the right to vote, 2) what did Lott do to advance equal rights, 3) why oppose condemnation of openly racist groups, 4) who are the people more deserving of holiday recognition than MLK, and 5) if he's such a fiscal conservative why is so much money wasted in his state?

Someone find me something Lott has actually done to correct for his past. Not what he said find something palpable. Clinton said he didn't inhale. Bush said he didn't snort. GHWBush said he wasn't there. And Reagan said he didn't remember. I believe only one . . . the one that doesn't remember that he didn't remember.

I beleive out of a staff of 100 he has one minority, a black, working in his mail room. So there.

BTW- Congress exempts themselves from any AA guidlines so I guess he has a excuse, however his state is over 50% black, and 20% of them voted for him. Seems he could have found someone qualified for other than a mail clerk if he bothered to look.

Not to be too critical, etech but italics are often hard to distinguish from regular text. In order to avoid confusion . . . particularly when you are
someone try using
or even bold so weaker minds will not misconstrue you missives.

If we were talking about almost any other topic than a reference to Strom Thurmond's '48 campaign I MIGHT used the word lynch or hanging figuratively. Maybe if we were talking about someone who did not work for a legislator, someone Lott called his mentor, who opposed anti-lynching legislation . . . I might use the word lynch.

The worst that will happen to Lott is that he's censured by his peers and maybe he resigns from the Senate. I don't use words like lynch or rape figuratively b/c some words are just too ugly for casual consumption.

If you want to take the close relative and say Lott is hanging in the wind that's probably obtuse enough for me. But he climbed up in the tree put the rope around his own neck and then said "hey look at me".
I'm just part of the gallery saying "how did he get in that tree with a rope around his neck?"
To which the press responds, "well look at his record."
Of course some in the GOP go, "move along, move along nothing to see here."
And the Dems lament, "damn why couldn't he do that in October?!"

I'll keep that in mind BBD. I really thought that you would recognize what you had written only a few posts before. I forgot one of the first rules of speech giving and did not take my audience into account.

Remember Senator Lott doesn't see black and white only people. You should email him and let him know a darkie slipped onto the public dole.

Well, one I was responding to your ridiculous exaggeration of stringing Lott up. Two, any reasonable person would conclude from reading the entirety of my posts (I know that's a lot to ask) that I'm not advocating strip the guy of his Senate seat much less take him out back and shoot him. Through both of the Lott threads I've advocated Lott bale on leadership before he irreparably tarnishes the party. Mississippi can send Lott to the Senate in perpetuity. I don't care and its their right. But the man's record on fiscal matters stinks almost as much as his record on civil rights, his willful associations, and unsolicited opinions on segregation (Time story), CCC, MLK, and Jefferson Davis.

PS what's a mea culpea? I think Senator Lott gave a much better mea culpa on Friday.
