My thoughts as well. Nothing is more annoying when they don't show that they've at least *attempted* to determine the answer on their own. All online social mediums (newsgroups, mailing lists, irc, ad nauseum) are full of neophytes whose only attribute more profound than their ignorance is their apathy.

I disagree, teachers/profs/TAs are there for just this sort of thing. Now if you don't understand a CONCEPT, despite having asked the TA/teacher/prof, then by all means ask it here. I'm more than happy to help if I can.

Keep in mind, that a lot of these students work part-time and have busy schedules. Sometimes they only have time for the lecture and can't make office hours. And for those who commute, you can't bank on them being on campus that much to get that help. Things get worse in the winter time.

You gotta consider thses things too.. it's life.. life is hard.

Next time you have a retarded question about your assignment keep it to yourself and look up Google. If you can't find the solution on Google, you're a 'tard anyways and don't deserve the answer. Next thing you know, we have all these super-nerds whining about how they *just* missed an A. Cry me a fvcking river.

ATOT is populated by a higher than average number of very smart people. It is only natural for a person having a problem to post it here. Where else can you be assured to get help, or an answer?

I skip over most of the homework threads because, for the most part, they are over my head.

<-----Isn't necessarily one of the above average people.

I personally like helping people with their homework. And IMHO the reason why there are so many questions lately is it is finals week on most campuses.

You're a fvcking dickwad, you obviously:
A) Didn't read the title of this thread, you know the part where I say that this being about homework. Maybe you should work on your reading skills?
B) Didn't see the part about it being about my asking if I was right in what I thought (which it turns out I was).

Nice attempt though.

Anyways, judging by the reactions in this thread I think I'm going to start posting my homework more often, but don't come and bitch to me when I start posting them weekly since it's obviously not a problem.

You've probably been noticing a pick up of homework questions lately as the fall semester ends and finals loom.

Welcome to UT: Austin/ UC Berkeley/ UCLA- where classes consists of 1 professor, 2-4 TA's, and 500 students. Lets see how well you manage to get some one on one time with a TA or professor.

Dumbass, he was making a point about your rant that people should learn how to solve their own problems or look it up online. You were too stupid to solve your own problem or look it up online so he OWNED you; it doesn't matter if that problem was homework or a networking question. Got it? No? Then shut up anyway.

HAHA PWNED!

You're all obviously too stupid to read the question in my thread since the SMC Barricade isn't a hub, it's a ROUTER.
BTW, it turns out that the article is overly simplistic about the problem because it doesn't tell you that the XBox is not DHCP-capable and that your switching device has to give the XBox an ordered series of addresses in order to see each other, but you figured that out thanks to the article, right?

Let me qualify *all* in the above statement, I was referring to the ones saying "pwned" not everyone in the thread

Also, apparently everyone thinks I'm trying to instigate a ban on all questions in ATOT which is clearly not the case. I'm ranting about people abusing other people's help.

i think this would be an excelent place for homework... especially computer related homework...

with all these people on here someone is bound to know how to do it and help the person / do it for them...

rolleye.gif
I do agree that people should endeavour to find basic responses on Google. However, if they don't, it seems rather silly to post a rant about their failure to use Google or do it on their own. Google isn't even giving good results anymore.

It's simple, RaynorWolfCastle: If you don't like the idea, don't click. The subject titles are usually clear, not misleading. You know what you're clicking. No one is forcing you to read the threads or help the members; nor are most threads about doing someone's homework. Enjoy your stay here and stop sweating petty things or petting sweaty things. :p

heh, I've posted some threads asking for help before and no one would ever help me :( It was the day before it was due, and I did slack off and probably didn't deserve an answer... but I didn't get one either, so I guess justice was served. In my case, no one wanted to help me so no one did. If they post it and people are actually annoyed enough by homework threads not to help then obviously he wont get the help he's seeking and will probably learn a lesson.
