<rant>
Off Topic isn't your personal tutor for everything computer related. If you don't know the answer to something, look on Google or read a fvcking book. I'm tired of all these dumbasses that post the most retarded problems here because they're too lazy to try to figure it out themselves. Off Topic is just this side of becoming the "do my homework because I'm too fvcking stupid and lazy to do it myself".

If your assignment is due tomorrow then and you can't figure it out, it's your fvcking problem stop clogging up ATOT with your "I'm too stupid to figure out recursion" or "I can't figure out how gravity acts on a block because I'm a dumbass." If you waited until the last day to solve your problems, fvck you, you don't deserve the points for that question. If it isn't the last day before your assignment is due, then go see the prof, teacher, TA whose job it is to help numskulls like you hobble through this mess called the educational system. Nobody wants to show you how to prove Liouville's theorem and noone gives a fvck if you don't understand how to use the string tokenizer.

Next time you have a retarded question about your assignment keep it to yourself and look up Google. If you can't find the solution on Google, you're a 'tard anyways and don't deserve the answer. Next thing you know, we have all these super-nerds whining about how they *just* missed an A. Cry me a fvcking river.

For those who aren't bothering to read the whole thread, here's a little clarification:

I think I'll update my first post because when I wrote the initial rant I was pretty pissed about the whole thing and didn't really go into specifics about what I was ranting about. I don't have any problems and I usually do help people who ask help about concepts, I just hate the threads that basically ask people to do their homework for them.

Actually sometimes people need the help. They cannot contact their teacher/professor at 2 am in the morning when they're trying hard to get things done.

Seriously, if you don't like people asking for help then dont' read the thread. How hard is it NOT to click on his link? Not hard at all actually. When I see posts that look stupid or boring I don't click on it.

For the most part I agree with you (like if it's a daily occurrance with the person), but sometime everyone needs help. I am guilty of posting one or two threads on a topic my teacher didn't explain (Integration), and if I didn't get the help, I would never have been able to understand it. I understand where you are coming from with the people that do this daily, or even multiple times in a day, but once in a while I don't have a problem helping people.

maybe they just need to put a tag on it. YAHWT, Yet Another HW Thread? or YAHWHT, Yet Another HW Help Thread? or..YAIAADT, Yet Another I Am A Dumbass Thread?

I count 3 v 1 so far.

Some people need help with homework. Other people like helping others with their homework. This is off topic, where homework threads are fine. Why should both of these groups cater to your personal inability to not click on homework threads? It's an internet message board dude. Chill out.

My response to your rant...

I think this is the perfect place for tutoring other forum members, if and only if they demonstrate that they spent some time trying to come up with the solution. For example in coding problems, if the person pastes what code they have, i think it's fair for one of us to tell them what's wrong (and display a code fix if we are feeling generous).

If there is a person asking a general question or need something done that instant, i agree.. they should google it or read more and not depend on us. But then again, their college may not have good tutors or teaching assistants.. i like the fact that we can help them.

You're obviously having a bad day, cuz you seem to be upset over helping people.
Hope you feel differently tomorrow!

AJ.

It doesn't bother me when there's one of them that pops up every so often but it seems these days it's getting to be worse and worse because people realize "Oh gee, why don't I wait until the night before my assignment is due to do it? The worst that can happen is that I won't figure it out and someone on ATOT will and spoonfeed me the answer".

But really, my point isn't about clicking the link or not, it's that they should really do their own homework or ask someone who's job it is to help them. Just because ATOT is kind enough to help you when you're in a bind doesn't mean you should ask here every time you don't understand something after thinking about it for 15 minutes.

If this is in any way related to my post, let me tell you I had it finished last friday. Today the teacher told us exactly how he wanted the assignment so guess what, thats all I've been doing today other than my other homework.

Off-Topic- Post about any damn thing you want (within reason).

If you don't like the post then don't READ it.

Now shut the hell up jackass! ;)

There we go this is what I'm talking about. That's fine. That you ask a question once or twice in the semester because you don't understand integration is not a problem, I'm more than happy to help out. That's very different from saying "I can't figure out how to do my homework, here it is, please solve it for me"

Raynor, I agree with you with one exception:
It's okay with me if they offer cash. There should be a $5 minimum though.

I don't really mind people asking for academic help online, except when they basically post a copy of the problem they were given with "How do I do this?" as their only addition to it. It's nice to see they've at least made an attempt before asking for help.

I disagree, teachers/profs/TAs are there for just this sort of thing. Now if you don't understand a CONCEPT, despite having asked the TA/teacher/prof, then by all means ask it here. I'm more than happy to help if I can.
