You mean if she knew? :)

She doesn't own a computer, and certainly doesn't know about this place... :p

Actually, among our small circle of friends, this is a poorly kept secret... I suppose this forum is not "our small circle of friends", but hey, I consider a few of you my friend, so I guess that counts. :D

no, I think you have a warped perception of what a "stick figure" is. You can be slender and not be a stick figure. In fact, you can be a size 0 and not be a stick figure. Stick figure is by definition not curvy in my dictionary (besides being skinny of course). Narrow hips, small boobs, minimal definition of the waist. Skinny thighs, tiny calves, upper arms the size of my wrist. Here's a hint, if I can wrap my hand completely around your bicep, you're probably a stick figure.

You can still be very skinny (as in having a small waist) and be curvy. You can be fairly plump and be curvy as well.

BTW who is Viper GTS's sister?

edit: clarification

Sounds like a normal day of shopping. Why is it that when you intend to get something it's not there, but when you're not looking you find what you want?

Okay, really the rant was about the "stylish" clothing that I would love to be able to wear...some of it anyhow. The things I wanted, didn't fit.

BUT for those who are thinking that MrsSkoorb must be a very interesting shape:

I am 5''8''. I wear size 6. There should not a be a problem then because it is not like I am looking for size 100! BUT the styles these days are not flattering to my figure and when I sit down, they go uncomfortably low.....*shudder* I also need to dress more maturely, problem being, not old lady style! I went back last night and found some things that fit although they were not the style I wanted, I guess perhaps it is time to move into the adult world! :)

I'm your height but can't get smaller than a size 8, my problem is all this one piece stuff, I hate one piece anything,it's too damn short in the crotch! As to more mature dressing, polyster mumu's aren't my thing either so shopping gets frustrating.

Thats what happens when you shop in the kids department. :p No wonder you could only find pants for 14 year old boys.

Okay, I do not normally rant about anything but today I feel the need to do so.

Since I start work next week, I decided to take it upon myself to go out shopping for some new clothes for my orientation. The is a wonderful mall very close to me and is full of wonderful stores both expensive and not. So, I make my way over this afternoon with full intentions of spending lots of Skoorb's hard earned money to make myself look nice in some new clothes. I walk through many of the stores, looking at prices and styles and then I start to try things on, mainly pants because that is what I need.

After 3 hours, I came to the realization that clothing manufacturers have decided that women are to have no hips and no butt and that they are to be perfectly straight like little boys. MrsSkoorb is NOT perfectly straight like a little boy! I am a woman and therefore I am shaped like one! I do not want pants that are slung so low that if I bend over, I risk losing them nor do I want pants that are skin tight and balloon at the bottoms like elephant legs! Then again, I don't want grannie pants that are up around my boobs. I simply want casual pants that FIT me and make me feel comfortable. I went into so many different stores and just about gave up out of pure misery and frustration.

Now before you think "Oh great, another woman not happy with how she looks in clothing," this was not the issue. I mean, if they FIT me I might be able to say that I didn't look good. Quite simply, nothing fit. I am not a strange shape, I am NORMAL. I just don't understand, I really don't. Everyone else must be freaks....

Sigh.

There. I am finished ranting. Thank you.

BTW: Skoorb got a pair of jeans out of it. :)

VERY WELL SAID!!!
I couldn't agree with you more. Gosh, does that tick me off too.:frown:

Mrs. Hoober says the same things, Mrs. Skoorb. I just find it interesting that with an industry full of women your size (thank God most don't look like little boys) that clothes are made for little boys. I'm certainly not hearing for the men here that they want little boys as partners.

And supermodels don't look like little boys. They have CURVES, man! I want clothes that fit Mrs. Hoober and accentuate her CURVES!

Thanks for the explanation, Bizmark. I should say though that in spite of that explanation, I haven't had problems finding my clothes. Any problems I had had to do with the length of pants or jeans in particular, since I'm tall. But for the most part I get my sizes at regular stores. Not all accentuate those hips, but they are reasonable nonetheless. My sister on the other hand has to order from Tall Women because she's pretty tall (mildly taller than I). (I don't even have shoe problems because my feet are 11 - 11.5. :D)

So, basically, as I said, I do have a behind and do have a curve. I'm petite on my upper body (x-small or small size fits me), but on my hips area I wear sizes 5/6 and then 7 sometimes if the clothes I am looking for are in size 6/7. I have no problem finding my sizes. And as I said, I do have a real behind and curves. :Q It is true that most clothes aren't really made for curvy people. However, it is also the case that most people I see on the street are not curvy people. I have seen overweight people who aren't well-proportioned (i.e., have flat behind and have equal lover and upper body). It isn't just skinny people who ever have flat behinds or straight body without curve. Most Americans are not curvy really in the true sense/meaning of curvy. But if one accepts curvy to mean plus size, then yes there are many "curvy" people.

I would recommend that those of you who think that the modeling industry just endorses "sticks" (and that meaning no curves at all) go read this book's Chapter 5 authored by the model Roshumba Williams: Types of Models.

Hollywood acting industry is where you see crazy anorexics. Yes, there are some in modelling, but I can name many models who aren't sticks (not to mention Tyra Banks, for instance who's got hips way bigger than mine even, yet she is still modelling for Victoria's Secret). (Speaking of Victoria's Secret, that show two nights ago was nice as we saw someone we knew and you could tell that she was pretty shy. LOL! I missed part of the show, but I never saw the choir like they had last year. It was really fun last year.) Part of it depends on what particular type of modelling one is doing. Besides, the so-called sticks may be naturally born that way, as I've seen some who are naturally that way. If people saw all of my ribs poking as it does, I'm sure I would be accused of starving myself. Yet nothing could be far from the truth.

I'm very lean and curvy but not excessively curvy. Curve is not discouraged, even in the modelling industry. I think it's a plus feature, since not too many women have curves and are reasonably curved. What isn't encouraged is excessive curve. My biggest fear is if I added weight, it would be on that spot. It isn't cute at all when excessive.

I do know what Mrs. Skoorb is talking about to some extent. But I hardly have problems finding clothes that accentuate my curves and behind (and yes, I do have a behind). The only area where I do tend to have such problem is with jeans and "pants". Part of it is due to my height too. But if you have Levi Strauss or a similar company customise your jeans, you can get one that perfectly fits you. I actually was lucky to get such a jean at Express. It's excellently fitting. It's my favourite jean, in spite of other jeans I have.

Geez, when last I checked, your sis was very skinny. Do you like to see people mock her? And what makes you think that a stick figure couldn't be curvy too?

My Lord! They hi-jacked the word curvy to mean plus size? :Q :disgust: I must have a warped perception of what curvy is. I don't think that one has to be plump in order to be curvy, but maybe it's just a definition thing going on. Has the word been hi-jacked by plump/fat people? :Q Wow! How about models like Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, to name a few who're lean but have curves? I give up on describing myself as skinny yet having reasonable curves.

Now, if you describe curvy as plus size people (which I'm aware they're used interchangeably) and we accept such as a model standard, so what should happen to the people you call "stick"? They should live a life of the plump/fat, cry and crave to add weight even if it's beyond their control? I am aware of societies where being skinny is rather mocked. It's no fun. Let the "sticks" rule if that is what it's meant to be.

You seem to love taking my comments completely wrong, do you just have a hard-on for pissing me off, or are you stupid?

First off, WTF does my sister have to do with any of this? She is what I would consider a "normal" woman, she is in good shape, she has curves - She's gorgeous. But she doesn't believe it. She too has trouble finding clothes that fit her properly, & never feels like she lives up to what the "ideal" woman is supposed to be. You obviously know absolutely nothing about my relationship with my sister, otherwise you'd know not to fvck with me on that issue. My sister is one of my best friends, I love her immensely, & God help the poor bastard who harms her.

ON topic now, by "curves" I mainly mean hips. Women are supposed to be shaped differently than men. They are supposed to have curves, and they're supposed to carry a higher body fat percentage (thus softer). That's what makes them feminine, that's what makes them women. I don't like stick figures who have no curves, I don't like the other extreme either. I like in shape, normal, soft women who have around a 10" difference between waist and hips.

Is that so hard to understand?

"You seem to love taking my comments completely wrong, do you just have a hard-on for pissing me off, or are you stupid?"

Huh? Excuse me? Can you point me to where I actually even ever said anything to you. I can name them one by one. My post two years ago when you were going to meet with Sarah. The other one was congratulating your sis for coming second place in some artwork. And then this one. Never have I spoken to you explicitly besides those instances. The in between post I ever made was the other one where I made a comment saying other people shouldn't be affected by what you said concerning not "getting it". And the last was the one where I referenced your name in agreement with your description of the The Good Guy. Other than those instances, can you point me to where I said things to you, hon'. *Waiting. Or is this just a hasty generalisation?*

"First off, WTF does my sister have to do with any of this? She is what I would consider a "normal" woman, she is in good shape, she has curves - She's gorgeous. But she doesn't believe it. Hello? Have you seen me speak of your relationship with your sister? Point it to me. All I asked was, how would you feel if people mocked your sis for being very skinny? That makes no statement at all as to your personal relationship with her. So, I suggest you stay away from red herring and argument against the person.

Your sister may have added weight within a year. I can't testify to it. But what I can affirm is that you shared your sister's pic last year and two years ago. And she was very thin. I know what I saw. There's nothing wrong with being thin and even very thin if that's your natural size. My point was one should not mock people who were naturally born that way.

Again, it's your business what relationship you have with your sis, her business who she meets, and associates with.

"ON topic now, by 'curves' I mainly mean hips. Women are supposed to be shaped differently than men. I agree. Women should be shaped differently from men. And I see many who are in the modelling industry. Somehow your post seemed to suggest that it was impossible to be skinny, even very skinny and still have curves. This is not true. If you follow my link, there are many like that. Fair enough that you said around 10" difference. Would anything less but more than 5" difference constitute not normal in your perspective? Would 8" or 9" difference be abnormal in your view? (By the way, if the ratio of waist to hips is above 0.8 for women, it suggests an excess of abdominal fat.) Thanks for your response, by the way. :)

Anyway, since I am a GAP fiend, I'd ask if you tried the Low Rise boot cut...yes they are low rise, and yes they are boot cut, but I find that they actually fit quite naturally on your waist (like just below the belly button), and don't really flare at all...just enough to get over your shoes. I thought you may have skipped them because of the name, but they are not bad. Let me know what you think.

Good luck!

That's funny...the only store I found a pair of pants that fit were in the GAP! AND on sale for $12.99 which made me happy....
I have a hard time with department stores...I don't know enough about style and would end up looking like a frumpy old woman! I need those stupid plastic people wearing outfits in the store window! :p

I went to Parisian, Sears, GAP, J.Crew, Banana Republic and many more but those are the names I can remember...sigh...
The GAP rocks :) Ok, so I dont really shop much anywhere else, but I have found success there...

The truth is, I'm probably one of those "little boy lookin" girls. I'm really small, and the curves are minimal (sigh). REGARDLESS, the jeans out there STILL don't fit. In fact, till I gain some weight, even the smallest size at the GAP doesn't fit well. The clothes out there are made for a really small part of the population, and the rest of us just have to adjust. It kind of sucks.

There is no "right" body type...its all a matter of interpretation, as clearly displayed by these posts. We are all beautiful. YA-YA :p

My mother shops in the UK and France. She says American women's clothing stores have lost their femininity. I agree with her, as usual. ;)
