Why is everyone so sure Moss wants a contract extension? In NE maybe, but is that still the case? The fact that this is a one year deal benefits both sides. The Vikings may have less need once Rice is back (but could potentially drop Berrian and keep Moss). However, the QB situation is unclear after this season, which is a another discussion on its own, so Moss may not be interested at that point in an extension if it doesn't develop soon enough.
 
He requested a trade after the win in week 1 because he did not get the extension during the off season (and he went off about for 15 minutes on TV). Also, all reports indicated that when he requested trade that he would not accept unless they gave him an extension.

If a lockout is still looming at the end of the season, Moss will want an extension with any team that'll give him one. If he goes into '11 without a contract and there is no football he will emerge as a 35 year old receiver with lots of miles and no deal in place.

He basically clears one entire side of the field as the secondary is perpetually focused on where he is and what he's doing. Be prepared for NE's passing game to suffer a tremendous blow as all their mediocre scrubs are shut down by piddly single coverage. 😀

This is great news for the Viks.

Yeah, that Tom Brady was sure garbage before Randy Moss showed up and helped him out...

Pats passing will suffer, but they'll go back to being a high completion, short-to-mid-range throwing team and they'll have tremendous success doing it. They made it to the AFC Championship game with Jabar Gaffney as their #1...

That was when they actually had a defense and running game. Now they have nothing.

Running game? Are you kidding? The "running" game consisted of screen passes and mediocre RBs. Corey Dillon is only marginally better than BJGE.

As for the defense, that's entirely my point. This entire season rides on the defense. If they play well, the pats are in the playoffs. If they don't, they aren't. Randy Moss has little to do with it.

The Pats D was never that great. Yeah, it looked great in terms of how many points they gave up, but it was never a "we'll make you go three and out" defense. Lots of their stops where in the red zone where coverage got real tight and they forced the other team to make FG or turn the ball over. Putting rookies in that type of D is a recipe for failure.

Their best defense has always been their offense. Without Moss, they took time off by marching down the field. With Moss, they got down the field with in minutes.That just equates for more time for the opposing team to do damage.

Also, Pats never really had a good run game.

I agree, they're improving from what they were over the past few weeks. BJGE seems to have done well the past two weeks as well. The Patriots never really have been a run-heavy team - but what team would be with Brady gunning it?

Right.

This article gave me a greater appreciation of how Brady fits into the pantheon of great QBs. I think it also underlines the point of why Moss is unnecessary and why the Pats might truly be better off without him.

in the 30 years i've been watching the pats, they've never been a running machine. grogan, eason, bledsoe, brady - all pass-centric offenses featuring draws up the middle for 1 yard gains.
 
Moss is amazingly talented but I never understood why they needed him when their defense was falling apart. I think some one here made a good point about the slower methodical offense they had before chewing up time and keeping the old experienced defense off the field so they actually had some energy left when it counted. Scoring a lot is great, but if your defense is exhausted and being bulldozed all day that just means its a high scoring loss.
 
I get giddy at the thought of Moss, Rice, Harvin, Shancoe, and possibly Berrian on the field in an empty backfield, or even to have AP in the backfield, sounds like a coverage nightmare.

2 guys who deserve double coverage attention, and guys who will burn linebackers on shorter in/out routes, and Shancoe who can get up the seams.... the potential.
 
The deal definitely makes sense for The Vikings. Wouldn't call it a gamble at all even. If they come knocking on the vikings door and say 'Hey, would you like Randy Moss for little in return'? You have to make that deal, unless maybe you're undefeated and don't want to mess up chemistry. The Vikings need help, or they're not going to go too deep in the playoffs. If Favre doesn't have another one of those seasons where he's leading the INT catagory (which could be at this point), they are the best offensive team in the league.

12 hours later this is still a shocking deal, and it's gotta be for 'not getting along off the field' reasons

I dunno, Curtis Martin, Sam "bam" Cunningham, Jim Nance, although in general your right pass seems to be there main weapon.

Yea, really Miami moved the ball well against us as has almost everyone has, I don't think we'll see another game with a blocked FG, punt, and a pick 6 to bail them out. Welker is still gonna be a great slot receiver but without Moss drawing DC every play life's gonna get a LOT tougher..

As a preview to the Sunday Night matchup, I'm going to say that there are a total of 33 cut aways to Favre in Green Bay vs Moss in Minnesota, with 15 of the cut aways going to Moss's Monday night debut (190yds).
