Keep in mind computers used to cost thousands of dollars.

Shens.

More people have died for the sins of dead economists than have died for the blessings of dead prophets.

Since what you said makes absolutely no sense and I know I'm right anyway, I dont really feel a strong motive to debate with you.

The 32GB G Skill 4X8GB 3200mhz CL14 kit I’m looking at for a Threadripper build has increased from ~ $275 a year ago to ~$490 now.

The RX Vega 56 I wanted to get has jumped from $399 a few weeks ago to $650.

Sigh.

Well I won't be building another rig until I have some money saved up anyway. So hopefully the price drop to something more reasonable.

Ram prices have always been odd like that. I think the issue is there's only a few fabs that make the actual chips.

Hopefully the prices do come back down by the time I want to upgrade my VM server.

When I built my last main computer I got stuck with 4GB RAM for years. So over past couple of years the computers I've built have plenty of RAM, 16-32GB. I guess if I could do without the RAM I could make some money.

For the discerning Kaypro II owner who wants more power:
256K CoPower-88 Ramdisk - $ 500.00 (as of 11/84)

There was also a 512K ramdisk on the market which I think was about $1000.

Yep it's silly. There always seems to be one component in your new build that is overpriced. Now it's the memory. Before it was the GPU due to mining. Before that it was hard drive shortages. When do the PSU and case builders get to have their chance at the profit trough?

$2000 for a 7980XE that has 24.75MB L3 cache. It's a bargain based on the cache alone! :D
