All the reviews seemed to think they would be widely available today. There's nothing out there on any site I trust. :(

<positive spin>

Maybe they were widely available, but demand was much higher than expected.

I've been F5ing amazon all weekend. They have 1 sapphire model but it's not really there its through another site and $409. The amazon shipped one is not actually in stock.

Sucks having gift cards eh?

Sigh. I'm in the same boat--have gift cards from Amazon to redeem.

XFX says the same thing on their site that it should be up on all major etailers today.

Tell me about it, but keep faith! I had about $350 in Newegg GC which I traded 1:1 to my friend for cash since TD had the HD 7970 in stock. Week later Newegg gets a fresh batch of new cards (plus better ones) and I'm stuck waiting for TD to deliver.

It reminded me why I don't buy from TD in the first place haha.

I just ordered an i5 2500k overclocking rig and I am patiently waiting on the video card. I think a 7850 overclocked seems to a be a good choice at its price point. Just hoping that the cooling solutions are as good as the 7870's that were just reviewed on the main page.

I was also thinking of going for a 560 ti but it doesn't seem to be as future proof when compared to the 7850. Skyrim benchmarks at 1920 with high res textures make the 560 ti choke, while the extra 1gb of ram in the 7850 allows it to cruise.

Sapphire 7850 OC is also in stock at Newegg, get em while they last (nothing else has come back in stock and no other manufacturers like Powercolor, XFX, etc are yet available)

Is the 7870 worth the price difference? I realize this is subjective, but the 7850 and the 7870 do not really seem that far apart in performance. I will be upgrading from two crossfired 4850s.

To Bing:

Dunno the 7870 should be about 15~20% faster. Based on that, it shouldn't cost more than $300, but I think they priced it against the HD 6970 and the gtx570.

I just did a quick comparison of the 7870 max OC vs 7970 max OC on AT, and it seems that the 7970 20-40% faster when running at the maximum oc w/o voltage mods, depending on resolution and game.

I'm waiting for a Sapphire or MSI 7870 to hit a sub $300 price point (used/refurbished qualify as well)

The Sapphire cooler can easily handle the overclock to ~1.2/5.4 out of the box, a minor voltage bump could produce a stable OC that would pit the card against the 580GTX & 7950.

Street prices today spoil the value, there are interesting alternatives in the $380 range, including some CF and SLI ones. Sooner or later this card will hit the $300 price point, June being my guess.

IIRC, the latest estimates for TSMC's 28nm ramp up is sometime this summer, so your guess might not be far off. Basically, you'll see prices drop once vendors build up enough stock to instigate a price war.
