HD5850 10.1 Driver and no issues here. Even if I up the frequency of the Core and Memory I do not get grey stripes or anything. Could it be that only first generation cards are affected?

I got my XFX 5870 the first week out and have never had any problems gaming/movies/desktop/ect. I have always had it clocked at 900/1300 also. That is in two different MB's... one with a P35 chipset and the other with a P55 chipset. So it can't be all first gen cards.

Not sure what is going on but hope the new fix works for everyone.

I put a poll up at [H] asking who got the GSOD grey screen crash, and who did not. Out of 35 votes, 20 had no problems and 15 had crashes. IMO its a certain percentage of cards that have the crash, not all of them

I've built a few 5xxx systems (including my own) and haven't had a single issue with the vertical stripes crash that wasn't due to my own fault (usually an overclocking attempt, etc.). Sometimes I wonder if people really take everything back to stock to confirm.

Does this help the 5770 owners? I am using the Beta 2 as 10.1 had my card flashing even sitting idle. Using the beta's I am at 960 and 1400, but every now and then I see the grey lines.

Thanks

Huh.. just found out 10.1 breaks the power-saver/turn monitor off. My screen just goes black with the mnitor still on. Lot of other people with same problem at the ATI forums.

I can live without the power saver, but this just adds one more fuck up to 10.1.

10.1 was the very first driver I tried on my 5770. It would flash a copy of the background over top of the existing back ground, but it was moved to left quite a bit. The original background would be there, but it was like an overlay of the original being flashed. If I tried to overclock just 1 mhz higher it would go to a black screen and I would have to reboot into safe mode, use Driver Sweeper and CCleaner, then boot into windows, remove the drivers completely and run DS and CC again before I could even load the drivers.

Now that I am running the beta2 drivers, which are listed as 10.1, I run my card at 960 and 1400, with just very minor, if at all gray lines during a game. I do run CCC, but why would you not want to? Is there another way to adjust settings without using CCC?

Thanks

There is MSI afterburner and I think even rivatuner works(haven't tried this on an ATI card).

I am significantly disappointed with the user experience with ATI cards (due to drivers and CCC just like always), just like I was several years ago with their cards. I can see that while things have improved in some ways, overall you could say nothing's changed. Same ol' story. Looking foward to NVidia getting their act together so I can ditch this ATI card and get back to consistent, stable, bug-free performance.

I don't get gray stripes, I just get program freezes after several minutes of running fullscreen video, doesn't matter if it's Hulu in FireFox or an AVI file in Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic. Eventually the picture hitches and then stops and unless I hit Escape quickly and pause it, the program will become unresponsive. Really annoying, especially when trying to watch a show or a movie. I even bought a new hard drive thinking it might have been a drive-related issue, but when things didn't change I started searching and realized i am far from alone in having frustrating issues with ATI's Catalyst drivers that were never experienced on my previous two rigs that ran NVidia cards.

No, supposedly they have a 5700-series fix coming soon. Given the lack of success (and introduction of new issues) with the 5800-series fix, I am not certain I'll want to install it if it does get released.

I have a brand new HIS 1GB 5770 that I got last week.

Periodically while using the computer, the screen will abruptly go black... and then after a while it comes back again. Also sometimes it will flicker and then I'll get the "Windows 7" chime thing. I never see any of this with my 8800GT card that I used to own. It only happens to me while I'm not playing a game. I've never had any issues at all in, for example, GTA4. It's very sporatic though - sometimes once an hour, sometimes, once in 4 hours.

I'm trying to figure out if these are related to any of the other issues or if I have some weird unrelated issue. I haven't overclocked anything in my computer and my computer has been rock solid for me for.. well, since I upgraded a year ago.

Check the link in the OP, that's the 2D crash described. I'm having the same issue, but not too frequently. The drivers are crashing and Windows is trying to recover. Everything in my system is stock too, and I got my XFX 5770 6 days ago.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding terms, but it's not really a "crash". The screen will go black and then after a minute or two, or five, everything comes back and I can keep using the computer again as if nothing happened.

I've never actually had a real crash. It always recovers without me rebooting.

I think I agree with what you are saying though. The more that I read, the more that I think it's the same thing. Thanks.

Install the beta 2 drivers, I have my new xfx 5770 clocked at 960/1400 and very, very rearely do I see the grey lines. I set it in CCC, but you cant test settings or it will go black. I just set it and check it with GPUz and it has been running great so far. I hope they get the drivers squared away soon.

The first time it happened to me, my screen went black in Win 7 desktop and then it came back after 30 seconds to 1 minute. A pop-up said something about a driver recovery.

The second time, it kept trying to recover as in it went black for 5 seconds, came back (but very slow and unresponsive) for 5 seconds, then back and forth for a minute until I did a hard reset; I didn't think it was healthy for either the system or the monitor for it to be doing that for too long.

Palit is a different company. XFX is a subsidiary of Pine. They are not in the list, they have not been for as long as I've had an xfx card.. probably just not updated very often.

I knew it started with a P and I own an XFX
