Why are the students voting for valedictorian? Is this a Cannuckistan thing? Here in the US, the valedictorian is the person with the highest GPA in the class. I find it hard to believe that 10 people had the exact same GPA.

It is common in most high schools in the area to vote for the valedictorian. It becomes a popularity contest.

If I remember right (it was 30 years ago for me), when I graduated from HS we were given a choice of two or three to pick from, each of whom had a very high GPA and had been involved in many extra-curricular activities.

That was awful. Although I didn't find it racist, I didn't find it funny either. It was just stupid.

That somewhat reminds me of my freshman roommate in college. His school didn't count AP classes out of 5.00 like most schools, so his GPA was the highest at his school. He told me, "I beat out the other guy because he was stupid and took AP classes. I took the easy classes and got a higher grade."

don't see what the big fuss is aboot. +2pts for referencing his teacher's rack.

Not sure about the contest though...we didn't get to vote on valedictorian, the student with the highest grade got it.

Do we know that there's anybody alive who actually thought this was racist? Sounds to me like a nervous administrator decided that somebody somewhere might be offended so they overreacted, then someone called the newspaper and they blew it out of proportion, then someone posted a poll on here as if there was an actual debate.

Edit: Seems that the poll is 37-0, which pretty much outlines my point that there is no other side to this debate.

Well i guess it's a good thing he's Canadian, eh?
If this happened in the US, every freaking group in the country would be jumping out of the wood work to crucify this kid.

I'm the most racist person I know, perhaps more than anyone else has ever known as well, but I honestly couldn't find anything to cheer for. 🙁

😛😉

Is he trying to do a Dane Cook impression? Because even if you succeed at that, you still fail.

Dane Cook is absolutely terrible.

Yep that's what he's saying 😛 Even if he did perfect Dane Cook it would still suck, because Dane Cook sucks

It's funny how all the kiddies on this forum simply follow the bandwagon. A year or two ago everyone agreed how awesome Dane Cook was, and now it's "common knowledge" that he sucks. In reality this forum is just a bunch of kids who follow the bandwagon.
