Well if it has yield problems, that sucks for them, they wont be able to sell as many.
Hopefully price is reasonable, and available with decent supply for the demand.
I'm not too worried about it, I'm planning on upgrading in 3-4 months, and as long as it available I will be happy.

decent supply? Not IF yield is bad :p

they claim to have only 20,000 for the entire launch

and "3-4 months" is really cutting it close ... i'd say you'll get your wish in September

good luck!

What no one is mentioning is at least half of that 20,000 is going to OEM vendors and enthusiasts will not be able to touch it.

It's going to be expensive and it's going to be hard to find. Expect price gouging for at least a month.

IF yields are bad and they are really waiting on the 65nm process to rescue them ... it'll be much longer than a month ... seriously i don't see r6xx in any quantity till July ... if they can really *move* which they haven't shown at all.

and if there are further problems, i really think they are looking at the End of Summer

i hope not

but i lost confidence in them

Yield problems? Maybe it's a sign.

"Yield, the competition may be beating your ass"

I really want AMD to pull this off, they really don't need this right now.

If AMD goes under the PC industry will turn into a big pile of monopoly crap.

If AMD goes under the PC industry will turn into a big pile of monopoly crap.

There is no shot that this happens. AMD is far far away from going under.

actually every time i hear something bad about R600 , i feel terrible that Video enthusiastic high end market in few years may be Nvidia Monopoly. Also i don't see how you would feel so great you had a 8800 when nvidia are just lazy and slow in the development on XP/Vista SLI driver which aren't in the shape you would hope by now. A lot of issue with old game like.

You must be the pinnacle of an ATI Fanboy Tuteja. This is an R600 thread and what you focus on is the development of drivers for Nvidia Video cards (Also might I add, while going slow, they are certainly not lazy and, as the AT article stated, very very busy trying to find ways to improve). Especially on Vista (The shape I would hope??? It's been out One damn month).

Maybe you should stop concerning yourself with bashing Nvidia all the time and start looking at this with at least an attempt at an unbiased perspective.

naw, GP ... he IS an admitted ATi fanboy ... but *nothing* like a few of our ATi trolls
[he is not "ati or die"]

... kinda how you like nvidia without being 'over-the-top' ;)

i *know* he has been playing with GTX sli and has had problems with their immature and buggy drivers

it "hurts" to see AMD hurting so much without making ANY comment about nvidia :(

go easy on ATi supporters
:gift:

they are dealing with AMD's "dustBuster"
:brokenheart:

.... and i still have an ATI card :p

Did the ATi supporters go easy on nvidia when they were suffering from nv30?

You don't think its fitting that they are now wearing their own treatment of others?

NVidia's IQ has consistantly been lower since at least the ATi 9700Pro days.

Just one small case in point that is very recent showing it's still true:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6166198/p-5.html

I went from an X800XL to my current 7900GT and it was VERY obvious from first boot with the 9700GT that the IQ was not quite the same no matter what settings I used for the 7900GT.

better whip out your best "acting suprised" face then.

yeah drivers are the issue at the moment for sure, but when you think that its a brand new OS built around a brand new API that is unlike previous DX API's i can sympathise with them. also, and MS is to blame here, nvidia effectly have to write 4 sets of drivers because of 64 and 32 bit versions of both XP and Vista

another point as well is that they also have to write seperate drivers for the 8800 series due to how radically different they are from the previous "traditional" architectures.

its annoying now, but they will get there.

ATi could benefit here as they are having a lot of time to get their drivers up to speed in time for the launch, so it might be late, but hopefully it'll be a little less troublesome when it does arrive.

i am *equal ridicule* when the situation warrants it [imo]

And AMD has invited ridicule with r600 ... nevermind their silly trolls

He doesn't claim to be. In fact I got a very (Grammar of a 2 year old) interesting PM telling me that I don't acknowledge any faults, and that I called everyone a fan boy or something.

I would say I prefer Nvidia because I have more experience working with their drivers, but that is not to say that I wouldn't buy an ATI card. I would much rather have an equivalent X19xx series card in my PC right now as opposed to my 7900GT.

i don't believe English is his first language ;)
[or his is always in a 'hurry']

i would say he *prefers* ATi ... because of previous bad experiences with nvidia and now more recently, their immature drivers and his favourite old games

imo, he is NO "pinnacle of an ATI Fanboy"
they are MIA ;)

and you DO have a tendency [like i do] to call those of opposing views "fanboys"
[it's an easy call, since most are "biased" including you and i]

me? ... i'd *jump* for a 8900GTS in AGP -- if it blew away the AGP x1950xt ...

--or will 'jump' for r660 if it ever turns out to be "all that" when i upgrade

no matters

it's a damn video card :p

i *know* neither company is loyal to me
