Are you serious?

Everything I have read says G80's IQ is a bar above ATI's in every way.

Maybe he didn't get the memo... ;)

Ya I did pretty extensive research on G80 before I bought it and was shocked to see IQ was so good considering the huge leap in performance.

AF Comparison on AT
Overall IQ Summary on AT

"With NVIDIA's new method of acquiring a more detailed blur via CSAA, angle independent anisotropic filtering, and high performance with Transparency AA, potential image quality is improved over G70 and R580."

R600 could easily match or surpass G80, but G80 definitely didn't cut any corners to achieve its performance levels. I was pretty dead set on getting an X1950XTX when I planned to upgrade in Sept-Oct, but then G80 hit so I waited another month with news of R600's incumbent launch.

ATI made a mistake though if those #s are close to accurate. A limited release/near-paper launch would've satisfied die hard fans and given them time to quiet critics while they readied a 65nm refresh. As it is now, there's still no guarantee they can improve enough on R600 to rival NV's next offering. Meanwhile, G80 will have taken a complete product cycle with absolutely no competition.

This is what kills me the most. This is a far worse launch than R520 and is quickly rivaling NV30's infamous birth.

I didnt think either company would EVER dare to make the mistake Nvidia made with NV30 again.

Ya, NV learned their lesson for sure. They just released card after card whether it took the crown or not, then released cheaper versions or cut prices on old flagships to meet every market segment. The biggest concern for ATI at this point shouldn't be taking the crown, its going to be filling the gap in price: performance between R5XX and R600 in the mid-range.

yep ... and if this delay continues much longer, Sapphire will be making GeForce :p

It could be also that AMD doesn't have enough product to warrant having ads at all? J/K.

any *smart* business will take advantage of their competitor's bad news to advertise their own product on the same page if possible

I went from a X1900GT to a 8800GTS...and im telling you right now....there is NO WAY ATI IQ can compare ( right now ) to G80. R600 may tho, or be better, but right now, They have nothing on Nvidia.

Ive been die hard ATI since they've been ATI.....and the IQ from my current GTS is just amazing. So far ahead of the GT I had.

I'm another one that is thanking for my card for each ATI rumor I hear.

G80 definitely offers better quality than what ATi has now. In particular nVidia are miles ahead with AA.

i dont get why people compair previous gen hardware with things that are far more advanced. yes the x1900 is dated, i'll admit that, it WAS good, 8800GTX is very nice, yeah, but is it truely worth spending all that money on it? i've had this in my mind the whole time. first generation dx10 stuff is going to be nice, but it wont be able to play things properly later on(that goes with all hardware of course), im going to wait a very long time till i finnaly decide to get a card myself, and i really do suggest it to anyone else i know. you never know what ati will bring to the table, or what the 8900's will do. from my pov, its all in the air right now. im waiting to see real benchmarks from sites all around to determine which is the better of the dx10 cards...and is it worth spending 350 or more on a single piece of hardware. power consumption is getting crazy as well...i'd rather see the process get smaller and cards get mroe efficient when i do get one. anyone else agree?

edit: i also agree with JPB on the getting a new card myself, whoever is the better and has a card out at the time, deserves my money.

My old name was X80064...which was retarded, LoL....they can call me a traitor if they want. I wanted a new card, Nvidia had options, and ATI didnt...go figure.:)

No, I mean a site that more of us can take seriously. For us literate types, we would like a bit of consistency and truth with our bs. But continue with your fan boy cheering.

The only problem I ahve with this is that PC hardware is always a waiting game. It's always up in the air. Likewise, there will always be something new on the horizon.

If you're ready to buy hardware, buy the best hardware available. This is why I think the G80 was and is still great.

It's light years ahead of the previous generation in terms of both IQ and performance.

G80 owners that have had the card since the beginning have had it so nice. Their $600 investment hasnt even depreciated at all. They've had the best card for 6 months and counting and it hasnt even been rivaled.

Even though R600 *may* outperform G80, G80 owners have had their card for entire product cycle already.

See the problem with that is ATI still has a marketing team... So while Engineering may be working their arse's off. Marketing is just sitting around... They have to be doing SOMETHING. What better than to spread FUD??? :D

Yes, one that "you" can take seriously is a site that doesn't show ATI/AMD in such a bad light. That consistently praises ATI/AMD. Fan boy cheering nothing. Almost all the ATI faithful are bitching about this and SO SHOULD YOU BE!!!!

What you don't get is, I WANT R600 here and now!!! I want prices driven DOWN. So I can afford a newer high end card!! But you think I'm fanboy cheering, when all the while you're the ATI apologist saying BS like discounting a web site because you don't like what it says. Even if they got their information from CeBit.. Is it true??? No freakin idea. But you dismiss muuuuuuuuuch tooo quickly.

QFT!

If it comes to 1 day left til my step up goes out of date and there is no 8900gtx, i will buy a 8800gtx :(

actually every time i hear something bad about R600 , i feel terrible that Video enthusiastic high end market in few years may be Nvidia Monopoly. Also i don't see how you would feel so great you had a 8800 when nvidia are just lazy and slow in the development on XP/Vista SLI driver which aren't in the shape you would hope by now. A lot of issue with old game like.

it depends 100% on your upgrade cycle

if you have a 1950p or better, probably not

if you are back in the 6600gt era --with a Core2Duo[!] ... you might be hatin' ... waitin' ;)

by *us* you DO mean the suspiciously-absent-except-for-one ATi troll

i didn't think you took ANYthing seriously unless it appeared on Ati's own site or Rage3D and then only if it made ATi look good and nvidia look bad :p

and by "literate" we realize that you mean comic books ... which appear to be your main source of "literature" - besides ATi FUD and AMD spin-marketing

don't worry tuteja1986, after AMD is gone intel will pick up the pieces and compete with nvidia

Keys you want the R600 now so that you can buy your Geforce at a lower price right?

Well if it has yield problems, that sucks for them, they wont be able to sell as many.
Hopefully price is reasonable, and available with decent supply for the demand.
I'm not too worried about it, I'm planning on upgrading in 3-4 months, and as long as it available I will be happy.

I said high end card. Whether it's a G80/G81/R600. I don't know which would be best for the price, of course. None of us does. But I see where you were going with your question.
Don't go there. ;)

My best bud, my brother in law, and myself are all building our new rigs at the end of April. I would really like to see R600 out before that time.

decent supply? Not IF yield is bad :p

they claim to have only 20,000 for the entire launch

and "3-4 months" is really cutting it close ... i'd say you'll get your wish in September

good luck!

What no one is mentioning is at least half of that 20,000 is going to OEM vendors and enthusiasts will not be able to touch it.

It's going to be expensive and it's going to be hard to find. Expect price gouging for at least a month.
