I guess only time will tell, eh Rollo? We'll know soon enough, however.
I'm thinking 8-pipe R420 for R420SE, 12 pipes for R420/R420Pro, and 16 pipes for R420XT
Just wishful thinking on my part though 🙂

Thats not a bad guess..

bad guess
Should be 12pipe for R420, which would include the Pro model and the XT model, but uses the same chip, and an SE one which is the same core but with a few pipelines disabled due to broken pipelines.

Then there would be a value counterpart called RV420

three things: firstly, I already stated R420/R420Pro would be 12 pipes, secondly, RV420 is a different core than R420. ATI has *always* seperated their performance parts from their mainstream parts by their designations (RV being for the mainstream and R for performance), thirdly, I also stated the SE version would be less pipes than the R420/R420Pro so what, exactly was the point of your post? You haven't contradicted a single thing I've said...

what various places? the only place i've seen it is at inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=14749). they get some right, some wrong, and often update their "rumors", so i'm not sure how "true" this latest rumor is....

German websites 🙂

ahh.. so did they give different sources (which would somewhat verify the inquirer article), or simply regurgitating what inquirer said?

Ok, time and again, must we bring it up? A video card is more than the hardware it lays on. There are actual instructions and programming in the core of the GPU. Not just freaken MHz and Vertex shaders. They do not process the games code, but only aide in the "pipeline".

*pulls out his hair*

And even so, this information is coming from a sources that only tell us what we want to know or to only feed our speculations.

Nvidia has never doubled the pipelines on a fall refresh before.

IMO if the nV40 is 16 pipes it was designed like that from the beginning

Wake up sleepyhead, it's spring.

Lets hope this is not the paper launch predicted and there will be cards available to buy.

Don't hope too hard. 😉 Best case scenario, ATi and nV launch a month before retail availability, per their own rules.

I wanna make my own speculation site. Then I can get people hyped up about certain products, and disappoint people at the same time 🙂

"NOW HEAR THIS!! NV40 scrapped! Next nVidia card to be NV900 with 400 pipelines and 8 TB of onboard RAM!!!"

Is there a reason to create a new thread each time someone clueless thinks they have some cutting edge news??

I suppose if your definition of "every now and then" includes every single day, at least three threads, for the past week and a half if not longer...

Well now that the thought police are here, I guess we better go back to ATI has buggy drivers and Nvidia cheats. Much more stimulating.

While I put as much faith in the Inquirer as I do the Enquirer and think the only reasonable rumors they have posted are those they have ripped off tech forums, the fact is that these threads are drawing 50-100 replies a pop says that people want to talk about it. If you don't like it, skip reading them 😉

ROFLMAO! 😀 Nice one 😉
Honestly though, who would rather talk about ATI's driver issues and Nvidia's cheats instead of R420 & NV4x? Oh, I know who, fanbois

I'd rather talk about the FX-53... since you can actually buy one right this second if you wanted to 😀

I heard Nvidia is simply scrapping Video cards altogether and going with Smell-i-vision.

Make fun all you want, but if Nvidia can't pull this off, I would be surprised to see them competing in the high performance GPU market come 2005.
Don't forget, Jen-Hsun Huang stated only a few short months ago that Nvidia's primary focus as a company would no longer be developing high performance GPUs. A little foreshadowing, perhaps?

Just curious.... do you know what he said their focus would be in the future? Chip sets for motherboards? Mid range to low end quality graphics? Just curious what he is trying to do with the company?

I would, but this thing, this irrepressible urge to subject myself to the pain, misery, and horrors of these blatantly wild inaccurate guesses forces me to click the link. I am a victim of morbid curiosity I suppose. 😛
