I'm bummed...I read through literally every Jack Ryan/John Clark book this summer for the second time, was waiting to see what comes next. Supposedly Command Authority will be released around christmas along with the new movie??

I really enjoyed reading his novels when I had free time to do that.
He was the Michael Crichton of Cold War military fiction.
wow, caught me by surprise too. have read a lot of his books, weird that there was no sickness or anything reported for him.
For those who are still reading the Jack Ryan books are the newer co-authored ones worth reading?
The last few that he wrote himself (particularly Teeth of the Tiger) seemed geared for action movie junkies with short attention spans.
I avoided all of the co-authored stuff, now that there won't be any more of his own I may need to go back and read them.

I liked Teeth of the Tiger, I thought Executive Orders was quite good. Threat vector I didn't like much at all til the second time through. Everything after Sum of All Fears gets a lot more...implausible, I guess?? I thought Sum of All Fears was probably the best of the series, and everything before that is pretty much required reading.

Executive Orders was the last one that I liked a lot. I guess Rainbow Six was pretty good but kind of.. video gamey, maybe? You can totally divide it up into levels and a final boss encounter. Bear and the Dragon and Red Rabbit were kind of meh, and Teeth of the Tiger I didn't like at all. Didn't read any after that but I guess they were "co-authored"/ghost written then anyway.
Favorites were Red Storm Rising, Sum of All Fears, and Without Remorse. I seem to remember liking Red October a lot too but at this point all I can remember is the movie.

Sum of all Fears and Red Storm Rising gave me such nerd boners when I read them.
They were so damn good.
They were so damn good.
I thought that they went downhill a loooong time ago. Bear and the Dragon was awful and made me give up on his books altogether.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to be a hater, I thought Tom Clancy's early books were very entertaining but by the end he was little more than a brand name.

Best chapter in the book was "Dance of the Vampires". The description of the Nimitz battle group trying to shoot down all the incoming anti-ship missiles was awesome.
