I thought that they went downhill a loooong time ago. Bear and the Dragon was awful and made me give up on his books altogether.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to be a hater, I thought Tom Clancy's early books were very entertaining but by the end he was little more than a brand name.

I liked parts of Bear and the Dragon, but the parts I hated, I really really really hated. Oh well.

RIP.

His later books lacked any kind of suspense. In Red Storm Rising you were really left wondering if NATO was going to lose the war, but in Bear & the Dragon the US stomps all over the Chinese as if they were retarded children.

That was a big problem, yes, and the comparison to RSR is a good one. NATO got their tail kicked for a large part of RSR.

Read his first 9 books and stopped after Executive Orders. Wasn't interested at all on his later books, storylines became boring and somewhat predictable/repetitive. R.I.P. :\

the movies were pretty good. liked a lot of the splinter cells. didn't realize he actually founded a game company.

Yeah, Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6, Ghostrecon and Splinter Cell. A lot of the hardware in those games came to light or is currently being used.

if you read one of his books, you read them all. I dont need 6 pages describing a door on a ship. Always sad to see anyone go, but no real lose here.

We will miss him and his writing. It had a very unique style, believable and yet, easy to read (although his books had many pages, you would find it hard to put one down once you are into it). I have all of his books that have been published and the new one that comes out in Dec is on pre-order. I wonder if he had any books already done, that are not scheduled for release. Age 66 is somewhat young and the news really did not say what the cause of his untimely death was.

RIP, Tom Clancy

RIP.

I loved his early books, but the later stuff was rather boring and predictable. The "co-written" stuff that came later is complete garbage and not worth reading IMO. It seemed like they were just books written by other people that Clancy put his name on so they could sell a bunch.

Hunt For Red October, Cardinal Of The Kremlin, Patriot Games, Red Storm Rising were all awesome.

Edit: forgot Sum Of All Fears, that was very good too.

Was looking to see if there had ever been a cause of death announced and ran across this. Wackdoodle extrordinaire Jim Garrow says Obama had Clancy killed. There is nothing that won't get turned into a conspiracy by some nut somewhere.

It is amazing that he was able to design a novel that the concept predated 9/11 scenario.

Then you have a couple of other writers, Brad Thor for one, that seem to be writing 2-5 years ahead of events.

All talk and nothing provided to back up the claims.

Typical.
