The power regulation on the DK vs LT is completely different.

In order of how DFI ranks there boards. UT being the top.

DK -> LT -> UT.

The difference between LT and UT is just stock cooling. ON the new boards, thermalright has done the stock cooling on the UT, while the LT is left with "acceptable" cooling.

More H2O freaks take the LT becuase we strip the stock cooling anyhow.

More Air people who want that extra push grab the UT because people end up upgrading the cooling anyhow, the UT saves you from that since its done by thermalright.

I recomended Gill the LT P35. Its not a bad board if you dont need xfire. However if you do need Xfire you need to step up the X38 LT not UT. or the X48 boards.

If your new to overclocking, stay away from the X48 series boards. The features on overclocking options on it is enough to scare the average overclocker.

To the newbie overclocker, its like giving a teenager who just got his permit, and not a license, keys to a porsche 911 stick turbo, and telling him good luck.

Regarding the QX6850...I currently have a Q6700. Since mine has the G0 stepping, besides the extra .3GHz, would the unlocked multiplier be an issue since i'll be running on air?

No, unlocked multipliers run air cooled just as well as locked multipliers do.

I meant as far as the locked multiplier (10x?) compared to the unlocked, wouldn't overclocking results probably be the same? Is the best way to overclock these is high FSB & lower multiplier?

I too am looking into that...unlocked multi would be fun.

Hehehe...yeah, but I didn't know if that was appropriate for me to say or not. :)
Compared to what they're selling for on NE, it's a great price!
What about the heat, though? Will I need to invest in a TRUE or will my Xigmatech do?

Nothing can chase a well lapped TRUE. Well, water will gobble it, and the IFX will do it @ half noise.

Ximgatech is a very good sink for the moderate overclocker looking for an easy but really good solution. Dont let the cheap price tag fool you.

I've got a Xigmatek, a Big Typhoon & a Tuniq Tower, but am thinking of something better since i'm going do do the Quad thing.
Are you saying that water's coolest, followed by the IFX, then the TRUE? And if so, is this the IFX you're talking about?
If it is, will it have any problem on this motherboard in a Stacker?

yes thats exactly what im talking about.

It takes less noise to = out a true.

However i dont recomend it in any case unless you have a flat horizontal bed. Like this.

The torque weight from the sink would gaurentee you having bad core temps across all 4 cores.

So i'd be better off either using my Xigmatek (which'll probably hold me back on an overclock) or break down & buy a TRUE & assume it'll need lapped?
Also, should I consider the new black TRUE or get the "plain" TRUE? Does the "push-pull" work best?

did you engrave "torture rack" on that thing or did it come like that??? I always thought you just nicknamed it torture rack b/c you used it to kill cpus.

dont discount the xigmatech. Its a very good sink.

However i just said, if you take a lot of time and do a very good lap job, i have yet to see a true get beat.

The IFX-14 is a great sink if your concerned about noise. You have twice the surface area of a TRUE, so you can disapate more with less static. However with more surface area comes with a big and heavy price. Litterally heavy. Which is why a flat bed is probably the best and only situation the sink should be mounted.

Your seriously gonna get really bad and uneven core temps on a quadcore if you mount it vertically.

Its DangerDen's. It used to have 2 MCR320's mounted on the side with a DFI LT X38.
Now its doubling as my HTPC rig with SLI. :T 16k points in 3dmark06 :D

I just ordered 2 480GTX's so that rack is going on full blast air until i get those new rads.

But as i said, im having a lot of fun with this IFX. Its a very very nice sink, expecially after its lapped.

Ewww my mess! Well thats why its called torture rack.
http://i125.photobucket.com/al...aigomorla/IMG_1124.jpg

incase you guys are wondering, you guys are looking at freya.

Sorry for the OT OP. If your looking for a fun case where you can have easy access, option to mount ANY sink you desire, the DangerDen's Torture rack is very nice case.

It also isnt super expensive at all. Average 130.

I think bryan has those stars in his eyes when a kid see's something he wants. :p

I can't get anything until I move. I'm looking at houses on tuesday...one of them has an upstairs with just a large "gameroom" and 1/2 bath. Maybe I can turn that into my laboratory...

lmao, that means coolant temps would be around 18-19C which means your load temps shouldnt break 60C loaded @ 3.6ghz.

What the heck are you doing!?!?!?!? hurry and start playing with the darn thing. Your almost as bad as i am Gill!!

Even TRUEs have been shown in benchmarks to work much better in horizontal configurations. No one really notices because most benchmarks on products are all open-air, which means they already are horizontal.

(Unlikely, but i can dream.)

I don't think you have to actually use any of your chips for this... you just have to be of certain status to get first dibs... I've looked and looked and haven't found anywhere where you have to use your chips.

After posting that i realized that :Q

So i could get this anyway it seems (if there are any left when my category is allowed to buy), & then still get the bundle (assuming there is one still) in fall

I was stupid earlier this year & didn't do any quizzes till now...so i'm way behind :( (stuck on Producer status).

I don't like this new rating system...i preferred being able to do nothing for a few months then do a bunch of quizzes & still make up tons of chips.
Now you gotta be doing shit every month to maintain status :/

Hey aigomorla, with the QX chips is it possible to clock the FSB lower than the default 333 MHz?

If so, it might be interesting, since i could run a really low FSB with tRD extremely tight.

But i doubt i'd get all that much more outta it than my current Q6700.

No job on their list; no deal for you.

It's one perk of having a crappy retail job.

my BSEE says i'm over-qualified but I did the crappy retail job on weekends so I could get parts discounts and get in on these deals :D

also...is it just me or does it appear that they changed the date to July 8th on when you can purchase... it used to be june 17th(today)... I'm Rockstar status

I got a Q6700 that ain't even been opened yet.
Would it be a waste of money to get the QX6850?

Yes, absolutely. The clocks will likely be nearly the same when overclocked to the each CPU's maximum (assuming there is nothing freakishly outlier about the specific luck of the draw you have with your current Q6700).

chances are you wont need anything higher then 10x multi.

even the QX im running right now is on a 10x multi.

DDR800 Ram isnt expensive, and thats perfect for the 10x multi.

I got 2 gigs of Corsair XMS right now. Whether or not it's any good or not, I don't know. I've had it in my MSI board when I had it running @ 460 FSB w/no problems...4-4-4-12 @ 2.1V, so I guess it's ok.

I need to but work and house = no play time for me. We are in hell month with vacations and work load. Hopefully it'll calm down soon as we just hired some help and I believe he starts next week.

Right now, the basement temps are topping out at 20C because it's cool out and we got the furnace on. The basement usually stays about 2-4C cooler than upstairs on average and I keep my rig on the floor as well so that's another 1-2C lower for the rad.

Has anyone heard a specific date on when the new processors are released and the prices are dropped?

Q3 could mean July, August or September.

Weren't the price drops last year around July 20th?

I got the UT...the one w/the "Transpiper" system. Just wondering if it's a waste of time to install it.
I got a Stacker 832 i'm putting it in & have 3 Aerocool fans on the side (couldn't put a 4th one there due to the Xigmatek).
I'm now wondering if my 520HX will be enough PSU if I should decide to drop that Q6700 in there (currently using an E6300). I got a BFG 800W back there, but dunno what to do.

something is better then nothing. So install the transpiper. Make sure you put TIM where the transpiper connects to the mosfet area. It will help you about 2-3C there.

the 520HX is fine. You wont need anything greater unless your sli' 280 or 9800GX2 or 8800GTX/Ultras.
