Quote from GWB's mom, Barbara on CNN's Larry King

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this -- this is working very well for them."

Wicked little patrician bitch thinks that its OK for poor people to be treated like crap because they are poor anyway. With a mom like that, no wonder Jr is such a despicable little human being...

You'd think the wife of one US president and the mother of another would think about her words prior to saying them on national TV.

She probably has never seen the po' folk before, and it shocked her.

Not every person who stayed behind was underprivileged. What of the hotel workers? Hospital workers? City employees?

Is Fats Domino underprivileged?

Here, educate yourself for once, mosh:

Not everyone living in the 9th ward was poor.

Accompanying her husband, former President George
H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in
Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the
poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them."

The former First Lady's remarks were aired this
evening on American Public Media's "Marketplace"
program.

She was part of a group in Houston today at the
Astrodome that included her husband and former
President Bill Clinton, who were chosen by her son,
the current president, to head fundraising efforts for
the recovery. Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Barack
Obama were also present.

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of
evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost
everyone I?ve talked to says we're going to move to
Houston."

Then she added: "What I?m hearing which is sort of
scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is
so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you
know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she
chuckles slightly) is working very well for them
."

You are serious aren't you? The point little man is not that she is right or wrong about whether they are underprivileged - btw, she is right. The point is that when providing relief for people following an emergency, you should not consider their economic standing in relation to the relief provided. More over, you should not justify the level by saying they are "underpriviledged anyway".

In any event - anybody that knows anything about this horrid old bag, knows this is not her first such verbal miscue. For those of you who don't, do a google search on her "beautiful mind"...

who the fvck are you calling little man? 😕

and PUHLEESE do not tell me you actually believe that relief was hastened due to economic status of those affected by the hurricane. that is so much bullsh!t.
but you hang on that if it makes you feel better.

great comeback. 😕

let's just say i have a point and you had no counterpoint.

I don't know what to make of these comments - I'd have to see her interview to put them in a context. They certainly sound odd, but hardly incendiary, and as I said, I'd have to hear a context to know whether they're a big deal.

For what it's worth, people who know the Bushes have described Barbara as cold and emotionally abusive. I think here maternal exterior may hide a pretty profoundly snarly side.

Little girl, I am Napalm.

Please show me where I claimed relief was hastened due to economic status. In the later grades they will cover reading comprehension - be patient...

That 'beautiful mind' statement was taken out of context.

Barbara Bush had HUGE approval ratings when her husband was in office. I can't believe people take shots at her, using it as ammo against her son. Attack her son if you wish, but leave her alone.

she is saying the people she's talked to all have mentioned going to Houston, and that's scary being that so many of them plan to settle there. she is thinking that a large majority feel this way and it may be too much for Houston to handle.

good gawd you people just love making something out of nothing. you should be in the media.

She is old, give her a break. Could your 80-something year old mother frame a perfect sound-bite for the media? I doubt it.

sometimes the truth hurts. They were poor, and after the flood, they were basically living like rats in toilet water. Now they're cleaned up, living, eating, and sleeping in THE HOUSTON ASTRODOME!
