It's only hard because you really don't want to quit.

i really don'y

i just know i need to...
Then keep on pluggin.

that's the plan

i just need something to satifsfy the urge to fidget with something...the psychological aspect, you know?
Well when I quit smoking cigarettes I was smoking marijuana full time as well. Only the good sh!t. So to ween myself off the smoking action I got a few ounces of some regular mexican schwag and rolled all of it into joints (took me hours). I went and smoked one when I REALLY wanted a smoke. I was in an environment that I could do that, so not everyone can. I never had a single cigarette.

The only real physical/psychological aspect I can see is the oral fixation. I honestly can't remember if I did anything to combat that over the long term. I just really wanted to quit smoking so I stopped and didnt think about it, my will power is strong when I set my mind. When I think about it, even with the smoking I had the urge to fidget and do things like chew my finger nails anyway, so quitting smoking made no real difference in that. I'm guessing you're the same way. That need to fidget and chew is always there, and always will be, just realize that and take it from there.

I did start smoking again about 4-5 years after that, for about a year. Then it started to hurt again so I just quit. Mabey it's just me, but I have this ability to quit smoking whenever I want, without really feeling any horrible negative effects. I've come to terms that I will probably be an on and off smoker for the rest of my life. I don't mind it, and I actually like it, because I do like smoking. It's a pasttime that just about every culture throughout history has endulged in. So if you can control it, it's a wonderful thing.

Take up running, and cut down on your drinking (cause its especially hard when youre wasted and eve4ryoens smokign around you)
Or just dont hang out with smokers. Nobody in my family smokes. None of my friends smoke. Why the fvck do people smoke? What a waste of money and lungs.
I dont know anyone that smokes and are glad that they smoke.
I have a keen sense of smell, and in particular, for a couple days every month, I am reminded that when I smoked, my sense of smell was duller.

I noticed the same thing when I quit smoking. I could smell a lot better, food tasted soo much better, and my body felt better. I found that everytime I wanted a cig, if I could get my mind off of it for about a minute the craving would go away for awhile. The physcological part is the hardest.

Oh... I didn't mention I still smoke though... Peoplethatwishtheydidntsmoke++

I think I would have to give up drinking to quit smoking for good. Damn even the buzz from alcohol is better when not smoking. I think I am understanding why it's called an addiction now. Gotta go, I'm jones'n.

Each cig takes 7 minutes off average expected life span...not counting the time wasted getting the weed and smoking it. First time I quit was 20 yrs ago, gave it up cold turkey no problem. 5 yrs ago, though I would remind my wife how nasty habit is (she still smokes) and became hooked again. Despite many cases nicorette, patches, Zyban, hypnosis, its much harder now.

"Im gonna quit even if it kills me LOL"

Personally I believe we get hooked on bodies endogenous endorphins. Think about it, if you calculated the actual surface area of respiratory tract, you expose a huge number of epidermal cells to toxins, first response of body towards any insult is pain mediation. You get hooked to the influx of endorphins and enkaphalins released by each puff. Of course, there are myriad of physical, emotional, social reasons we smoke. I think I'm gonna have to quit all the cues.

After a meal, drink, coffee, cola, sex, work, what do you do...you smoke. I figure if I quit all those, then I'll be a happy man and can quit tobacco.

Infernal nasty wicked devilweed! Why in heck did I ever try it again????

EDIT: Keep it up, YOU can do it. And your body will appreciate it.
If all men realized the shrinkage and performance hit on virility from smoking, they'd have to lie even more!

If each cig takes 7 minutes off of a life span just imagine how old George Burns could have been... biblical!

BTW, OP, I'm a month smoke free now and the key to my success this time around was to not drink. You might want to consider that if you want to actually succeed this time around because that's definately the toughest part. It's a lot easier to tell yourself 'just one won't hurt!!' when you're drunk as hell.

Switch to chewing tabaco, that way you don't kill the people around you.

Not sure if this helps at all, but I quit on Nov 15th 2004

Trust me, it was hard. I used the patch (the step down kind).. I smoked at LEAST 1 pack a day, on weekends a lot more. It is so nice not having that crutch anymore.

Just focus on getting through today, then tomorrow work on tomorrow. Don't let them win, you are stronger than cigs.. You can do it man.

Good Job!

Congratulations, and good luck. I've been cigarette free for almost 10 months now, just keep at it and you will succeed. The first week is the hardest with the physical cravings, once thats over its just a mental struggle until you can disassociate your smoking from everything.

I've been smoke free for 5 1/2 months. I tried quitting many times in the past but this time was different.
