and also, what's the difference between TA_CUBE and NOT_TA_CUBE. i'm sure it's a stupid question, but for example, windogg is NOT TA CUBE...

I believe they just use russ's proxy but the blocks do not go to the cube but to their own email acct. or other, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Well, the TA cube is a miniteam within TA. All our blocks eventually goes to TA, so being a borg means you belong to both. There are individual members who crack for TA without belonging to a miniteam and there are other miniteams in TA as well. To see your stats (if you belong to a miniteam) you have to send your blocks through a pproxy and not directly to dnet. The individual crackers can see their personal stats atdnets site for participants and to see TA's stats you go here As you can see TA is number 2, and the miniteam TA cube is currently at 24th place.

Welcome to the TeAm Tim0thy!

Whether you go it alone or as a Borg Drone, it's good to have you on TA!

I added the "not_ta_cube" so that those members of the cube who are racing each other and tracking their rankings would know that they aren't competing with those. For example, while Stanman is listed in 4th place, he is really 3rd place on the mini team.

It is correct if you wish to be a member of TA Cube. You would change it to your own if you want to crack as an individual, but then you will need to sign up to join Team AnandTech.

one more question... sorry for being a pain. i'm going away for vacation for a while... how do i download a crapload of work units so my cows can work while i'm enjoying my vacation? doesn't seem like i can get more than 500 packets at a shot. :/

i've tried setting the fetch-workunit-threshhold to 640000 and it doesn't seem to like it. is this value too large?

The client has a limited download size. However, you can use Sneaky to download blocks, stockpile them somewhere else, download more blocks, stockpile them, ect. You can then merge the blocks into one buffer. I don't personally use Snaeky, but I think that it can do this automaticly too.

I wouldn't cut and paste. I'm not sure if Sneaky handles it, but I would recommend using the import feature of the client.

From the command line, in the distributed.net folder, use the following to import the input buffer from the floppy:

dnetc -import buff-in a:\buff-in.rc5

This will take some time depending on the size of the buffer. To speed things up, rename the buffer file you want to import, copy to the dnet folder, then run the -import. For example, I rename my buffer to be imported to BUFF-INA.RC5, then I run the following command:

dnetc -import buff-ina.rc5

You can also import output buffers. :)

i'm trying it sneaky's way at the moment, telling it i want something like 99999 packets and it's repeatedly downloading 2000 packets at a shot. can't wait to stick this on a machine and have to look for a week or so heh

Uh, if you have it set at 2^33, 99999 packets is over 3 MILLION blocks.

i have it set to 99999@2^00 and i got about 70k work units, which is going to be MOST of my vacation...

i know, i'm nuts, but if i'm going to do something, it's either all into it or why bother.

Timothy,

Next stats update, you'll show up by name.

ROFL... i'm just preparing for my trip by making the disks and then i can pop them in and leave (that's in 12 days). for the meantime, i'm using my manager's machine to crack since he's away on a business trip hahaha :D (i'm my own manager now).

<edit>
ARGH!?!@ what happens if i lost packets? i got a CRC error on a disk and lost oh... 99999 packets. :(:(:(
</edit>

<edit2>
someone was concerned about my using my manager's machine, but i use it regardless and he allows me to do anything i need/want to do, so it is ok.

Just joined the team. (I think).
I changed:
[parameters]
id=rc5@tacube.com

but under networking it shows the following instead of Russ's IP:
[networking]
autofindkeyserver=no
keyserver=proxy.teamanandtech.com
dialup-watcher=active

Do I need to change that to read:
keyserver=207.108.218.138

Also tried adding a 2nd PC, but it's connected as guest through the LAN using Midpoint Gold software for Internet connection sharing. On that midpoint guest, do I need to put "midpoint" as my keyserver, and then make a change on my Midpoint host machine to point to Russ's IP?

Last question.
To check my stats using my IP seems odd, as my IP changes everytime I connect. How will it maintain my stats with multiple IP's?

my proxyper is pointed at tacube.teamanandtech.com and it collecting from Russ's proxy so whatever that resolves to. you should see a message that says

<< resistance is futile >>

when you update.

Don't know about midpoint, I just use the proxyper for my machines.
