LOL @ Ryan Seacrest. Replace him with Tyson Beckford.

except acting macho is something inline with being male. I man acting like a woman is a little different.

two extremes, both equally as obnoxious and irrelevant, depending on your perspective.

I don't think you're ever going to get it, so why bother asking?

and this. I dislike Perez Hilton immensely. It has nothing to do with his homosexuality or his flamboyancy therein. Because if he acted suppressed he would be uninteresting, then he would not have a career?

Wow, that was hard.

I've lived with 3 gay men (and 2 straight women - it was a huge apartment) and became quite good friends with 2 of them. I got all of my gay questions out and here are the biggest answers, according to 2 gay men (so it's not the end all, be all truth):

1. Q: So, do you really like getting shit crammed up your butt? A: "Vaginas are as disgusting to me as assholes are to you. I literally want to gag just thinking about a vag.. It's an instinctual reaction"

2. Q: So, what's with all the flamers? A: "Flamers seem to be a social creation, a way for gay people to spot each other. I was born in Cali and live in NYC so I can just be who I am, but if I was born in say Kansas and was in a bar - I'd be terrified of getting my face stomped in for approaching the wrong guy, so some gay people put on an act to signify "I'M GAY!" to other gay people. That has grown into a culture and then a stereotype. Insecure people also put on an act, like overly macho men or overly fem girls"

lol shens on (1).

I know a gay dude who actually agrees with 1. I chalk it up to something I simply will not be able to understand.

If vaginadenta is an officially recognized disorder in the DSMO, it doesn't seem that much of a stretch for this much milder reaction to vag to exist, no?

Ehhh, I'm still gonna call shens on 1. "VOTE SHENS ON 1."

When I see hotties on TV, let's see this is ATOT, Jessica Alba and Megan Fox, I label them as "would put the straight back in a gay man."

which is only meaningless, and further goes to show that you also don't "get it" (assuming you're being serious.)

Are you gonna take a look at Brad Pitt or Hugh Jackman and suddenly decide to go after dudes?

There is exactly the same chance of that happening with you, as there is a chance of that happening with any individual gay person.

Think about it.

I think queer men who are scared of pussy are faking it, just like I think hetero men who are scared of ass are faking it. A body part shouldn't repulse you.

EDIT: "Faking it" isn't the best word choice. Rather, men have been made to feel a certain way by society, which I think is unnatural.

As to the OP: It's a pile of disingenuous garbage with nice helping of very thinly veiled bigotry and disgorged in an extremely condescending tone.

Anyone who knows his posting history knows perfectly well that the OP is not in any way "on the sidelines".

Well, I think it's OK to ask questions, as long as you're open to the answers.

That's where the disingenuous part comes in...

Then I hope this thread is useful for other people, who are willing to let go of ignorance and fear in favor of enlightenment.

Personally, I never understood gay people until I lived among them and asked questions. Heck, I still wish that I had a black friend so I can ask them un-pc questions about black culture.

OK. I can't help but  my ass off at that.

What happened to your previous black friend?

My perception of him is that he is both physically and pychologically sick, there is some clear chemical imbalance going on in his body (much like someone who is clinically depressed) and think "one day, i'm sure there will be medication that will straighten him out and get him functioning like a properly developed human being" again. It's his type that make me think he is equally as sick as a pedophile, or if not that bad, at least chemically messed up.

you don't deserve a real answer to this question because you're not capable of understanding it nor are you worth the time.

As usual, you are significantly biased on this topic and blow things out of proportion.

ATOT, here is a 36 pack of AA batteries. If your sarcasm detectors need 9V, too bad.

swbsam kinda hit the nail on the head, I always thought gay people operated with that kind of mindset, they just don't like pussy. More for me. The flamer act makes a lot of sense too, although I do think that flamers are the gay analogue to butch lesbians.

Yes, I am confused as well. Nik, what bias does Platypus have, and what things has he blown out of proportion?

You know, I only had one lesbian friend and she kinda disappeared, so I don't have much insight. That friendship was insanely hard to maintain because she ALWAYS thought I wanted to do her (because she didn't trust men at all), but I just thought she was brilliant and funny (and, ok, terribly unattractive).

From my limited exposure to lesbians, I really think it has less to do with emulating men and more to do with not giving a fuck. My "style" consists of an unshaven beard, sloppy shirts that have grease on them, and crooked glasses - not because I'm clueless or "butch," but because I don't give a fuck. I'm married, I work in relative solitude and have no reason to impress anyone, and just don't really care what I look like in the morning.

Do you know how much work being "feminine" is? My wife takes 2 hours to get ready every morning - I take 15 minutes. I think butch lesbians are allowed to not care, the same way I'm allowed to not care.

Add to the fact that men hit on anything that wears a dress, and I think that's a good reason to be as unattractive as possible.

Which is not to say that some lesbians put on a butch act - there are always insecure people out their who need to identify with a group through fashion.

First rule of being a grown up - hate individuals, not entire groups..

Unless we're talking about nazis.. it's ok to hate nazis..

Lets change that to "hate individuals, not entire genetic/cultural groups"

I don't think that butch women think that they are unattractive. They and the people who are into them, find the butch archetype to be very attractive. Many straight women find hypermasculine "don't give a fuck" men hot, and many people find "don't give a fuck" women hot.

Queerness is the ultimate rejection of heteronormativity (google it), and with it one can choose to reject heteronormative beauty standards and gender rolls. This means that queer people can find certain archetypes attractive, even if they go against the mold of mainstream society.
