Why did Ripley bother to flame, blowup and shoot the mommy alien's eggs if the whole place was going to blow up anyway?

Because a professional killer leaves no doubt. Just like in Dudley Doright when Snidley Whiplash ties the chick to the train tracks and leaves. Then the chick gets loose and he has to start all over again.

Once they are down, double tap to be sure.

Yeah. I gathered she was pissed. I was just wondering if there was any other reason I had missed in the last 4,345 times I've seen this movie.

She warned the queen to back off & let her through with a few warning shots from the flame thrower over the eggs. The drones did back off but then one of the eggs opened so Ripley let loose.

I thought about that, too. Did the queen have the ability to open the eggs, or was it just bad timing?

The face-huggers go straight for the first human they see, one hatched. I didn't get the impression the queen made it happen, bad timing!

Oh, and she was pissed.
