Microsoft has announced an update to the Xbox app that enables the ability to download Xbox PC games on Arm-based devices, while also committing to improving gaming on Arm devices as a whole.
I just purchased a used Lenovo Ideapad 5(x) 2-in-1 tablet with the Qualcomm X Plus XP42 chip. I wanted to try out ARM after having owned so many x86 Ultrabooks. If ARM is the future, I want to get in early and try to understand the primary benefits, even if there's currently a strong headwind against it (eg, compatibility).
I've read this thread going back a year ago, and there's so much good technical info here regarding Qualcomm's X SoC. But the enthusiasm for it has died off considerably over the past 6 months and this has me worried. Anecdotally, more concerning is that big box stores like Best Buy no longer stock as many of these Qualcomm machines.
I fear that if Qualcomm really had an ace up their sleeve in regards to 2nd-gen X chip, we should have officially heard about it from their marketing teams by now. Otherwise, why risk such continued negative public opinion about their product without throwing a bone of hope and hype?
If the performance of 2nd-gen X is really as good as the leaks have shown, this should be shouted from the rooftops by QC! More, they should be selling a story of a possible Windows-on-ARM-only future and justify it by using Apple's currently dominant M-series devices as an example. They should be pushing hard an "existential moment for the Windows PC and we can save it" marketing message if you ask me!

Qualcomm has now the issue of the GPU. For me CPU wise is already decent, but GPU is the issue now. If they hype up the next gen too much, it could negatively affect the sales of the gen1 chips. One of the slower ones, at that! I don't care if the absolute performance is that of M1 MacBook level (or even worse). I want the efficiency experience of said MacBook, the ARM-like feeling of instant-on, etc, that seems to go along with those chips. Plus I wanted to tinker with it, being an IT dude. Am I delusional in thinking these features on WoA is going to be just as good as they are on MacOS/iOS/Android? No, but I'm hoping they're a lot better than they are on x86 mobile computing.

Let us know particularly about the fan noise. Seems QC has a problem in general keeping their SoCs cool (it's kind of a recurring theme with their phone SoCs too).I bought one

Geekbench 6.3 requires SME2 support to enable SME. Geekbench 6.4 can do either SME or SME/SME2.
8e2 has SME but doesn't seem to have SME2 (according to rumors). So, the GB 6.4 result has SME included while the GB 6.3 result does not.

Another good score especially considering the lower clocks and no SME, but I wonder when we'll see it at full clocks. Hope it won't be a case of only a fraction of chips achieving the top clocks.

Exynos seems that increased the L2 or L3 cache to defeat the MTK 9500... maybe is time to become the 2nd place on ARM and even the 2nd place in all defeating Apple? 1st place is Qualcomm definately

Johny Srouji said in an interview that Apple is not concerned with benchmarks in response to a question about why A-chips are not moving to an 8-core configuration. Their focus is on ST performance and power efficiency. I expect Apple to make significant changes to the E-core architecture this time around.
SD 8 Elite and MTK already defeated Apple in MT and Snapdragon caugh Apple up in ST at least for phones. Is still pending if they catch up in the laptop and tablets department

Who cares if Apple wins or loses in MT? If Apple went to 8 cores and took back the MT crown and the competition responded by going to 10 would you be saying Apple needs to go to 10? Does winning a benchmark, especially a MT benchmark, mean ANYTHING in the smartphone world?
Sure winning at MT is meaningful in the PC world because there are real world workflows that can use up all the MT performance you can muster. Such workflows are the exception rather than the rule, but they definitely exist and they are definitely important to those who run those types of loads.
There aren't any real world workflows on a phone that can soak up all the MT you can offer. There are just benchmarks for bragging rights in internet forums. Someone ought to develop a long running MT benchmark for phones, so we can see how much MT performance suffers if you leave it running flat out for a while. Then maybe people will realize how ridiculous it is to even be comparing phone SoCs in MT.

Does this really matter? Who is noticing a difference between 9500 and 9900 on GB6 in the real world? Flagship phones (except the Tensor GPU....cough cough) have been fast enough already for a few years at least.
