q6600 temp ranges needed

Anyone know what "safe" temp ranges are for a Q6600?

As I understand it, safe temps for an e6x00 are:

tcase = temp at the thermal spreader as read by speedfan <55 C
tjunction = temp at the core as read by TAT <70 C

Here are my temps after 4 orthos (cpu affinity set one per core) for 40-50 minutes:

9x266 = 2.4 GHz

Speedfan: 39-45C (coolest core and hottest)
TAT: 60 and 57.

----------------------

9x300 = 2.7 GHz = stable

Speedfan: 44-53 (coolest and hottest)
TAT: 68 and 65

----------------------

9x333 = 3.0 GHz = stable
Speedfan: 46-56 (coolest and hottest)
TAT: 71 and 67

Relevant system specs: Asus P5B Deluxe, Q6600+Ultra-120 Extreme+AS5, 2x1gig Ballistix DDR2-800 @ 4-4-4-12. Also, everything is stock except the FSB (speedstep is enabled, C1E is enabled, CPU and mem voltages are stock).
 
u dont need to worry with C1E enabled.

This forces your chip to undergo thermalthrolle if its on dangerous heat lvls.

@3.1ghz, I'm reading 58-63c in speedfan
73c-77c in TAT and coretemp(core temp actualy shows all 4 cores, tat only shows 2 of them).

if i remember correctly, the kents can go up to 80 or 85C. But your idle is kinda scary.

What kind of HSF are you using?
 
Those are actualy my load temps, speedfan showing lower than TAT/core temp(which is to be expected). My idle temps are actualy in the mid 30's, with case temp of mid 20's.
 
Now running at 3.15ghz. Orthos puts me at 85c-89c Core temp(yikes!!), 68c-70c speedfan/asus probe. Coretemp shows Tjunction to be 100c, which appears to be the throttling temp. My roomate overclocked the crap outta his E6600 and hit 85c, which is the listed Tjunction for that CPU, and started throttling right at 85c core temp reading. 4xfolding at home, with 100% CPU load gives me temps about 10c cooler than Orthos. I'm about to wip out my water cooling, and see how that does.

H20 + Kents FTW!!

uhhh i hope you have a 120.3 class radiator. You'll still get better temps on water if your running at least a 120.2

Ummm also, storms dont work very well on kents. D-tek, or apogeeGT/GTX FTW.
 
Anything <80 is ok. Obviously the lower the temperatures the more stable your overclock will be.

Also Speedfan reads a Tjunction of 85 which is why it reports much lower. It is not good for the processor to run in throttle stages for long periods of time, so just watch if you comptuer is throttling or not.

This is my planned setup, basicly my first attempt at water cooling was a thermaltake bigwater(that was before I really did any research go ahead and laugh), later I bought a swiftech kit, which was quite a bit better. I plan to combine the kits. This is how I plan to set up my loop: Swiftech pump-->CPU block--->Swiftech Radiator(single 120mm fan)---->thermaltake pump---->thermaltake Radiator(2x120mm fan(push-pull, one on front of rad, one on back of rad))---->swiftech resevior--->swiftech pump.
 
Still haven't got it stable past 3.2ghz, but core temps readings below 70c at full load, asus probe/speedfan readings below 50c.

No please do not use thermaltake radiator or thermaltake pumps=garbage

The best radiator out there are thermochill PA120 series...PA120.3 is the King right now period(yes there is a 120x4 but it only performs a touch better with high speed fans and alot of noise..blah)

MCP655/D5 very good

best per $$ is the DDC 2 w/petra top(also called a mcp355)

I would recommend a single loop with cpu/gpu(if you are cooling this) with a PA120.2/120.3 or less expensive would be a Swiftech 120x3) and a mcp 355/655 pump

EDIT: oops reread post..DO NOT COMBINE the 2 kits....

you are going to need to upgrade the radiator...and get a better block...

DTEK would be my suggestion from a cost standpoint..if you go Apogee GTX you will need to bow the lbock to get better perfromance and in your case the Dtek Fuzion will be a huge upgrade

this is the problem with water when you buy the wrong stuff..it is expensive to fix it....
 
I went with an AC pump as my second pump to replace the thermaltake one, since it will be outside the case anyway, Hydor Seltz L 35 II. I got a Danger Den black ICE GT dual fan radiator, I'm currently stuck using only the thermaltake radiator, since the swiftech sprung a major leak, and I also have the Apogee GT water block on the way. Should have the new parts on tuesday or so, but so far it's doing OK with just the thermaltake radiator, I deffinatly want to see lower temps though.

And back to the original topic, anyone else want to report their quad core temps?
 
After changing the orientation of my HS, the temps have come down (again, q6600 @ 9x333):

Orthos 2x full load all cores, TAT:
Processor 0: DIGITAL TMP[ 64C ]
Processor 1: DIGITAL TMP[ 65C ]
Processor 2: DIGITAL TMP[ 60C ]
Processor 3: DIGITAL TMP[ 60C ]

And 45 min of multithreaded x264.exe:
Processor 0: DIGITAL TMP[ 60C ]
Processor 1: DIGITAL TMP[ 61C ]
Processor 2: DIGITAL TMP[ 55C ]
Processor 3: DIGITAL TMP[ 55C ]

Here are the corresponding speedfan numbers for the x264 run:
Core 0: 46 C
Core 1: 47 C
Core 2: 41 C
Core 3: 42 C

dont mix, pumps on the same loop.

keep thermaltake away from all other water kits.

think of thermaltake waterproducts like cancer. You mix parts, your gonna get a mailigant tumor somewhere down your loop.



 
Speedfan temperatures are not accurate on Kentsfield. Use Core Temp. Speedfan sets Tjunction for the entire C2D lineup @ 85. It should be 100 on the Kentsfield.

Core temp doesn't work in Vista..only thing that works right is speedfan..

lol, i've been using megui, i was just wondering 😉

and the main reason why i would switch from my dual core to quad core (q6600) in august is because of MeGUI. how are your gains?
 
Core temp works great in vista. Right click and hit run as administrator under properties. It also wouldn't hurt to run in compatibility mode for windows xp sp2

All it does is give me an error saying it failed to load the driver, and that some information won't be available. I click ok..and then it infinatly spams the same error message over and over non-stop..

I booted in to XP and speedfan was exactly 15c lower than core temp..so I just adjusted the offset.
