Didn't we already debunk this one before? Microsoft's compiler is waaaaaaaay more common than Intel's compiler. Most stuff shows Intel slightly faster than AMD. The only program I remember being hardcore skewed in favor of Intel was Far Cry 2.

This might be true but Intel Compiler is often used by benchmark designers and oddly intel will usually supply them with a free copy.

Yeah, I have less than 300.00 invested in this new system and my old stuff is sold for 250.00, so it is quite the bang for the buck. Q6600's still bring good money...

OCed the 1075T to 3.5GHz (250x14) on stock volts and still super low temps- 20C idle and 42 load. Seems to actually be lower than right after I built it.

that's awesome man, I would live to have 6 cores at 3.5ghz. Totally can't justify it though-- I already have 4!

I also used HWmonitor, the temps shown in the green box are closest to the ones shown in my BIOS. In my case the temps displayed there seems to be realistic.

There is only one sensor on the entire chip to measure the temps.. and its not an accurate one.. AMD uses a formula to determine the temps of each core(which obviously is not accurately displayed).. and unfortunately no one knows the formula.. AMD did not disclose any technical info on that.

everyone uses a formula...it depends on the current running through a transistor with a given bias. That amount of current changes with temperature due to the temperature-dependent-properties of silicon. As for why they won't share it, don't know why.

I haven't even tried pushing it yet.

nice epeen - no offense, but that has nothing to do with OPs thread and helps in no way.

spdfreak - 3.5ghz is a good OC already on stock cooler, to bring it much higher I really recommend getting an aftermarket HS. I run my 1090T @ 4.0ghz 1.4V 24/7 and if i'm benching or testing sometime i run 4.3ghz 1.52V which is also prime stable - temps at 4.3ghz are 36C idle 58C load with 15C offset, on a very beefy Xigmatek Thors Hammer with 2 38MM fans in push/pull.

Fuzilla is saying that AMD is about to release several new X6 CPUs, so it might be worthwhile waiting for a week or two.

Also remember that Sandy Bridge will be out soon and will certainly cause CPU prices to drop, especially chips like the X6 IMO.

I do appreciate all help and advice. I'm sure I could get a lot more out of the processor, but I'm really scared of burning up the MB. It is a MSI 785GM-E65 uATX that is rated for 145W cpu's. It does have a pretty impressive heat pipe cooler system on the NB and mosfets but I still don't trust it to push much higher with all the stories you see of burned up boards using OCed X6's. I'm not sure how much a higher clockspeed will help since the last movie I transcoded using handbrake couldn't use all 6 cores at 100% anyways. They were more like 80%.

Yeah, I'm curious as to what the new AMD chips will be and how well they clock myself.
