I remember the good ol' days of Thundercats, TMNT, Garfield, Loony Tunes, etc. Switch to any channel on Saturday morning and there was a good cartoon on. Now when I turn on the tv on Saturday, all I see is pure crap. I blame all this on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!!!

American cartoons has always been crap.

Japanese is the way to go.
Japanese cartoons 10 years back are better than cartoons currently in the US

I blame it all on liberals. CARTOONS ARE NOT FOR LEARNING. THEY ARE FOR GIGGLING OVER A MOUSE SKEWLING A CAT. The recent incursion of Anime appears to be a vague attempt to bring back the fun in watching cartoons, but unfortunately, no good anime makes it past the censors... And for obvious reasons. Therefore, we have DBZ, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and such, and a vast army of stupid, redundant "learning" cartoons.

Anime... :shudder:

Cartoons don't seem a whole lot worse than they did when I was a kid in the 80s.

Alot of the ones on The Cartoon Network are still pretty good. I could do without the 20 or so Pokemon rip offs.

fox bought the rights for shaman king, which just finished airing in japan a few months ago. hopefully fox won't try to turn it into the next pokemon, SK is actually a good series. but the dubbing will probably suck if they tried to do it all in the summer

only good american cartoons are: Simpsons, Futurama (gone), Family Guy (gone)

and some on cable like Justice League/Batman ect...
and SNL's Ambiguously Gay Duo

For the most part, the remakes suck. For instance, the original Batman, TMNT, X-Men, and Transformers were substantially better than the new ones. I really wish a network would start a channel that would exclusively run those and other classics like Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Sonic the Hedgehog, and WITW is Carmen San Diego.

Samurai Jack has an interesting visual style and choreography. Dexter is a cliche but fun in small ;) doses. Powerpuff Girls are Hardcore! (or at least Bubbles is).

The last major-network cartoon I recall liking was the previous X-Men series on Fox (90s), good animation and writing, including the ongoing time-travel story arc with Cable(?) trying to prevent the Terminator-style future.

Anime: some of it is great (Ghost In The Shell, Spirited Away, Cowboy Bebop, Noir, ...) and some of it is junk food (DBZ, cheesy but fun).

Just like in music, movies, books it's easy to recall a "golden age" in the past, conveniently remembering the good parts and forgetting the other 90% that was garbage.

I think most of the cartoons from the 80's on have sucked. I don't care how good the animation is.... in fact, some of the animation is incredible... But, cartoons are supposed to be funny. With very few exceptions (Pinky and the Brain is one), cartoons these days suck. I want Pink Panther and Looney Toons!!

The new Spiderman alone is enough to qualify your assertion as bunk. Seriously, check out the new Spiderman cartoon - it's incredible.

Also, there's a tendency for you to believe that all the cartoons that you saw while you were younger (hence stupider) were better than the ones you see now. For that same reason, you think the TMNT movie was completely awesome while the Power Rangers movie was hilariously stupid.

BTW, most of the Japanese cartoons suck just as bad as our American cartoons. Dragonball Z is pitiful. The one reason American kids watch it is that their cool friends watch it and are thus cooler because they watch it too.

ABC Family still shows the 90s X-Men on Saturdays and looking back some of the plots were pretty crazy but it sure beats the hell out of the High School drama X-Men Evolution.

The Cartoon Network needs to pick up Animaniacs and Pinky and The Brain? Those shows rocked.

to prove their mousey worth. They will overthrow the Earth.

Indeed. I got all excited the other day because I saw Spiderman on MTV in the listings, and then I watched it...and it was utter crap. The original Spiderman on Fox was so much better. Spiderman, the original Batman cartoon (the one before New Adventures), Gargoyles, X-men, all quality. Heck, I have all the X-men and Gargoyles episodes and I still enjoy watching them. I would kill for the complete set of Batman episodes.

The problem with current cartoons is that they're too preachy and/or too politically correct. Look at Doug. When it was on Nickelodeon, it was funny. There were subtle themes of acceptance of those different from you (Skeeter was blue, after all) but it wasn't overt. Then it went to ABC. Patty became homeschooled for no apparent reason other than to artificially induce diversity. Then there's X-men Evolution. X-men has always had a message about accepting those different from you, but the new cartoons just beat you over the head with it. Bleh :disgust:
