"Cooking" an egg involves only changing some proteins from one form to another which causes the clear part (I forget the name for it) to a harder white, and to harden the yolk. Not BOILING water in the egg. Aside from that, I've been past the boiling blood thing. I made my point, journalism should be about passing on important information, not about hyping something up with words that make something seem worse than it is. As I said, the author of that article could have chosen a less fantastic and abusive-sounding quote, which would have been less sensational and provided a more unbiased account, but that wouldn't have provided as many hits to the site. The quote there also to me sounded like it was meant to be "literal", not simple hyperbole, but the speaker stopped short of saying "he literally boiled it".

But like I said, I'm past that. :)

As for locking up anybody that makes a mistake, I'm quite sure that would leave far too few people to maintain the infrastructure of human society in its current state. One may as well allow us to revert back to pre-civilization and let natural selection start killing us off again.

Lord Evermore,

Why did you have to reply so harshly from the beginning? You continually revert back to the argument that journalism is a huge hype machine used to incite responses from the reader. And that's true, news is business, but don't you think it's a little hypocritical when you use the very same methods in your posts? And as we can see from the massive amounts of replys to your posts the hype machine works.

Boo-frigging-hoo. Show the article to a mother in a war-torn country while she's holding her dead child's body. Or a kid with a distended belly whose parents just died of starvation so the kid could have the last of their food. See how much sympathy you get.

If that post wasnt written to illicate a response then call up the news agencies around the world, their doing their job wrong. Yeah this isnt a newspaper, but by golly this has got to be one of the most frequented forums on the net.

I'm not a journalist, expected to report news in an unbiased form. I posted my opinion. I expected a response, but not one quite so vehemently against me or so heavily biased against the guy that killed the dog. Maybe I could have just skipped the thread altogether and let it be a "pat ourselves on the back and congratulate each other for being such good animal lovers" thread, but that wouldn't have been true to my tendencies.

Oh yeah, as for the volume on these forums, ask the vast majority of forum users who are not technically inclined what "Anandtech" is, and I'm sure you'll get "huh?" as a response. No real point to me mentioning that, but there really wasn't any point in comparing the forums to a news agency either.

I tend to agree with Lord Evermore........It amazes me how far and how much support animal rights have recieved.........

Sometimes I get the impression that you could do more jail time for killing a dog than you would for killing a human.....

Recently a animal shelter burnt down and the outpouring of support including financially, was incredible...........Meanwhile how many hundreds of homeless people are suffering downtown............How many are going without proper medical care..........How many kids go to bed hungry...........?????????

I have this picture in my mind of the animal rights activist kicking the homeless guy asking for change out of the way, while he goes into petco to buy gormet doggy bones for his pet.........

I don't want to see animals tortured, but where does the meat in grocery stores come from...........????

Are those animals living happy carefree lives in peaceful meadows and then gently euthinzed for your dining pleasure............?
