Looks legit to me. It's from Sony Online Entertainment, the makers of EverQuest and other PC MMORPGs. If you've ever played one of their games, even a trial, you'd have a seperate account you created that's completely different from your PSN account. This account was also compromized.

If you do remember having such account and playing and paying for one of SOE games in the past, then your account would have been reactivated and you can go back and play it for free. Use Google to find their WWW-site and reset your password rather the link in the e-mail, if your still concerned that it isn't legit.

Seems legit to me. I got one. It leads to an encrypted SOE login. Either it's real or that's one very elaborate phish.

I never got an e-mail from Sony. But I was able to reset my password and login to PSN and connect to games from Japanese servers. But I still can't access the store and get my free games Sony is offering everyone.

Ya - the store should be up on the 24th.

However, the games won't be available for free immediately. I would imagine another week or so before you can snag your games.

Think about it; a huge network has been down for a month. You can't just flip on a switch, tick off a few radio buttons and allow millions access to DL 4 games - you'll crash.

Also, they will be free for 30 days. They aren't going anywhere soon. And, it's digital, no worries about copies running out.

PSN Store not back until May 31st at earliest.

The latest information I have on PlayStation Store is that we are aiming to have it live by the end of May. Contrary to popular rumours, it will not be reopening tomorrow but we will let you know here as soon as the date is confirmed.

Is there any other way to activate new games so I can play them online? Even though multiplayer gaming is back up, I can't activate any of my games to play online since the store is down. Can I do this through the PSN website?

S'pose I could Google it...

That is just great. All those pre-order codes and my PC version of Portal 2 just got put on hold for another week+. THANKS SONY, douchebags. I am so sick of the gaming industry as a whole at this point.

The PSN store is necessary to sign in to steam? All you need is to put your ps3 version in, sign in from the game (which should be possible with PSN now) and then use your code on the PC.

Got the same e-mail but I wasn't even sure what a Station account was. I had reset my PSN password through the PS3.

I'm in no rush to get the store back up. When it does, we'll probably see 1KB/s download speeds with everyone grabbing the freebies. :p

There was a poll on Gamespot the other day asking how many PSN users had jumped ship to Xbox Live. Few had. The survey was moot at best. Only online gaming addicts would do that. Most of us aren't going to dump hundreds of dollars worth of games down the drain. The real question is how it will effect Sony's future sales. With the NGP on it's way, Sony must be worried.

"Sony appears to have done nothing effective to prevent its other sites, even after the earlier compromises."

Wow, that's pretty damn stupid on Sony's part

That and I'm sure this isn't helping things either.

"Telling them to bring it on is not the best strategy. I think Sony is beginning to understand it horribly underinvested in security."

That's like throwing a rock at a nest of hornets that are already pissed off.

not sure how jumping over to xbox live would be "dumping hundreds of dollars worth of games down the drain."

i know this may come to a shocker to a lot of people ... but you actually CAN own both consoles and enjoy them both.

Good to know, thanks Brandon. I thought you'd have to go through the store for some reason.
