I wish Bioware had done this with Dragon Age 2, made it better then the average game at best it is,Witcher games however are in a different class, amazing such a small company can put so much effort into their games.

EA/Bioware could learn a lot from this.

IMO, yes. TW1 was fantastic.. many feel the first 2 hours were boring and all.. but it is truly a game worthy of anyone's times.

You can definitely enjoy TW2 for sure, but it would be a shame if you missed out on the first one.

I guess my biggest concern would be a lack of cohesion in the story if you didn't play the first one. The person that I suggested The Witcher 2 to prefers story in games, but isn't really a computer gamer. Maybe the real takeaway from this is that I need to change that!

"Oh my... how did that gifted copy of The Witcher from Steam end up in your inbox?"

The Witcher is on sale right now at GOG for $4.99.

You can get a free GOG version of it as well.

At least that's my understanding of what they're saying here.

Thanks for the link. I was having trouble with the patch so it's easier just to download the whole game again. Without GOG I would have had to redownload the base game from amazon (11GB) and the patch (10GB) whereas the complete edition on GOG is 15GB. Hopefully I'll have no problems getting it up and running.

So, hopefully this hasn't been asked already.. but do you need to start a new game to play through the new content? Thanks.

I think that is the whole point of it. There are new quests in Chapter 3 and towards the end.. instead of picking and choosing where to start, playing the game one more time is a better alternative.

This is all the info I can get..

New major adventures set in new locations. These consist of an underground system of chambers beneath Loc Muine and a temperate coniferous forest in the Loc Muine mountains, and a secret cave passage. These new adventures will add several hours of story-based gameplay to the game.

A SEWER level?? One of the new locations is a sewer level? ...

...Well, whatever, at least the other new stuff doesn't include escort missions. Does it?

Cool, that answers my question. Thanks!

FYI if you have the Steam version and it failed to auto update to the EE, restart Steam then have it verify integrity of the game files and it should start downloading.

I have a non-Steam version of the game - can't recall if I bought off Amazon, GoG, GMG or GamersGate, but anywho, patch downloaded and installed no problem last night. Problem is I haven't completed Witcher 1, just started on Chapter V quests, so I'll be working on that for some time.

I've only played the first hour or so of TW1, and I'm not sure if I want to play it before I dive into TW2. I guess we'll see how I feel later 😛

I haven't tried updating but I did get the backup from GOG.

I also just started Chapter 5 last night in witcher 1, I'm hoping to finish it this week so I can start W2 this weekend, I've put this game off a long time lol, I bought the witcher 1 the day it came out but never get around to beating it.

On a side note, does anybody else wish that witcher 1 would be remade in the witcher 2 engine? I really like the story from one but it feels like there are still a lot of glitches in the game that probably just stems from the engine (particularly weird positioning and stuff for talking scenes). Also from the tutorial in witcher 2 I think I'm going to like the combat a lot better, the combat in witcher 1 works but the combat in witcher 2 just seemed more fun to me.

lol, nothing like having a conversation in a grass field.

You can always mod TW with high textures.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-witcher-texturen-mod

It looks pretty good with that mod.

Yeah I've got that installed along with a high res char mod, it looks pretty nice but still not as nice as witcher 2 imo. Like CPA said though some of the conversations can be pretty weird, I'm not sure if it was abd programming or something to do with the engine but it didn't seem to happen in Witcher 2 when I did the tutorial.

Lol yeah, last night in a conversation between the grandmaster and Foltest the grandmaster was walking in place the entire time, kinda took the drama out of the conversation...also in the swamp a lot of times I'd be talking to someone while a drowner was sitting there beating on me, at least you didn't actually take damage during that.

I didn't want to start a new thread just for this:

I loaded up W2:EE and tried playing a little yesterday but I can't get past a certain point in the tutorial section. It's weird because I don't remember getting stuck there when I played the regular version of W2.

I can't get past the Knight whom you're supposed to ripost. I tried for 20 minutes, holding parry or hitting parry right before he attacked, but the ripost symbol never appeared. I finally gave up and just tried to hack at him to get past the section but he wouldn't die, so I quit.

Am I missing something really simple? It's been known to happen.

I tried to get through the tutorial 3 or 4 times and it would stop at the same point each time and I would get stuck. I eventually gave up and just playd the regular game. I think they just didn't have as much QA done on the tutorial as the main game. You should be fine at that point to just play the game since you have made it through most of the tutorial.

I've run into that bug too, you can still riposte even though it doesn't show up. Here's an explanation from the official forums:
Just to highlight
- You need to press E before the enemy starts to make a move, and hold it down.
- You need to hit LMB immediately after he starts to swing. You should still be holding E down.
- If it doesn't work, release E before you try again
