IMO, yes. TW1 was fantastic.. many feel the first 2 hours were boring and all.. but it is truly a game worthy of anyone's times.
You can definitely enjoy TW2 for sure, but it would be a shame if you missed out on the first one.
I guess my biggest concern would be a lack of cohesion in the story if you didn't play the first one. The person that I suggested The Witcher 2 to prefers story in games, but isn't really a computer gamer. Maybe the real takeaway from this is that I need to change that!
"Oh my... how did that gifted copy of The Witcher from Steam end up in your inbox?"
The Witcher is on sale right now at GOG for $4.99.
You can get a free GOG version of it as well.

At least that's my understanding of what they're saying here.
So, hopefully this hasn't been asked already.. but do you need to start a new game to play through the new content? Thanks.
This is all the info I can get..
New major adventures set in new locations. These consist of an underground system of chambers beneath Loc Muine and a temperate coniferous forest in the Loc Muine mountains, and a secret cave passage. These new adventures will add several hours of story-based gameplay to the game.
I think that is the whole point of it. There are new quests in Chapter 3 and towards the end.. instead of picking and choosing where to start, playing the game one more time is a better alternative.
I'll wait for Ultra Mega Hyper Super Black Turbo Director's Cut Monster Collector Edition![]()
Unfortunately, for the person in question, I would need a Mac OS copy, and that appears to be Windows only.
I haven't tried updating but I did get the backup from GOG.
I also just started Chapter 5 last night in witcher 1, I'm hoping to finish it this week so I can start W2 this weekend, I've put this game off a long time lol, I bought the witcher 1 the day it came out but never get around to beating it.
On a side note, does anybody else wish that witcher 1 would be remade in the witcher 2 engine? I really like the story from one but it feels like there are still a lot of glitches in the game that probably just stems from the engine (particularly weird positioning and stuff for talking scenes). Also from the tutorial in witcher 2 I think I'm going to like the combat a lot better, the combat in witcher 1 works but the combat in witcher 2 just seemed more fun to me.
You can always mod TW with high textures.

It looks pretty good with that mod.
lol, nothing like having a conversation in a grass field.
I didn't want to start a new thread just for this:
I loaded up W2:EE and tried playing a little yesterday but I can't get past a certain point in the tutorial section. It's weird because I don't remember getting stuck there when I played the regular version of W2.
I can't get past the Knight whom you're supposed to ripost. I tried for 20 minutes, holding parry or hitting parry right before he attacked, but the ripost symbol never appeared. I finally gave up and just tried to hack at him to get past the section but he wouldn't die, so I quit.
Am I missing something really simple? It's been known to happen.
