I bought dollar store razors and they sucked unbelievably. However, I do always use now the ultra cheap ones from Walmart, Target, etc. (they are better than dollar store). These would be the low end brand name ones with a couple of blades. They work fine and I get dozens of shaves per. The Gillette et al lines are a total racket.

Being unemployed for over a year (now happily employed) turned me into a perhaps obnoxiously cheap individual, so I constantly try to think of different ways to shave a few bucks off of our budget. Instead of using my beloved mach line of blades I resorted to getting awful dollar store razors that really put the hurt on my skin. Recently, on a whim, I thought I'd give double edge safety razors a try - wow, what a difference!

I was a bit scared about nicks, especially when shaving my head, but the trick is to take your time the first few times.. I got a cheapie handle ($7), 100 blades ($11), and a bowl/brush set ($8) all from amazon - $26 for probably 2 years worth of shaving! I may jump up to a merkur but, honestly, I don't really see much of a compelling reason to.

What I absolutely love about safety razors is that cartridge razors get clogged so easily with gunky bacteria magnets - with a safety razor you can unscrew and rinse - the end result is that the blades last longer and skin that looks great too. Less ingrown hairs as well. Woot!

When I use a razor I use the 6 blade ones Weis (a grocery chain near me) sells they're surprisingly cheap and good. I don't actually use razors that often though (either use epilators or electric depending on what I'm doing usually >.> <.<)

I hate when the ATOT hyenas enter a thread.

To the OP, I've been meaning to get a DE razor for a while now, but the free Gilette razors have lasted me a while. Dry shaving or even with shaving cream kills the Fusion blades for me after 2 weeks, but shaving in the shower makes them last months. I still buy about 1 razor a year now, but the rest I've been getting free in the mail.

if I could find the old double bladed Sensor Excels, I'd be in heaven.

For now I buy the disposable Mach 3. Since I started growing my terrorist beard, I only shave a couple times a week. It didn't make sense to keep buying the expensive ones when they would deteriorate before they wore out.
