$300 x2 travel credit and minimum $1000 point redemption? You've already made $1150 off the bat.

Don't cash out because you only get $1,000 in cash. Do it by Chase portal and you can get over $1,500 worth of travel ( airfare, hotel, etc.). I was checking around and my 100,000 UR points could cover my round trip from US to Asia and back and then the round trip from southern US to Las Vegas and 1 week of hotel in LV. Don't forget the $100 credit for TSA precheck program, airport lounges around the world, primary car rental insurance, and on and on. My Platinum AE benefits were not as good as this card.

For me, Chase UR points are so much better than AE Rewards points. I literally couldn't find anything I wanted to use AE Rewards points for. I ended up using it on some Neiman Marcus gift cards and gave it to the wife before closing my Amex card.

If you can max out your rewards it actually is a fantastic card. I've done a few new cards over the past year and almost jumped on this a couple of weeks ago. But I'm doubting I'll have enough travel expenses in the near future to fully take advantage of it.

Thanks for the heads up. Going to see if the wife can get one approved.

Already got mine last year, and it's awesome.

Just do some good ol' manufactured spending. Buy Visa gift cards at max increments etc. Sure you pay some fees, but you'll still be ahead over $1k even if you just redeem your points for an Amazon gift card.

Yeah I was just telling him the minimum he would get back considering he doesn't seem like the type to dig deeper into it.

My personal minimum to spend my points are 2 cents a point and I've gotten as high as 9 cents a point. Sitting on a bank of 320k UR points right now.

Even better than the Chase portal is to transfer your points to United Airlines. Your points will go a lot further. Only use points on flights as that is where you save the most money. Using them on car rentals or hotels isn't worth it.

I think I'm going to finally jump on this now.

Question: I assume the $450 annual fee is charged upfront when you get the card. Does that mean you also get the $300 travel reimbursement credit right away as well?

$450 fee every year... how much do you come out on top every single year?

So $450 - $300 = $150 annual fee. 3x points on restaurants/travel which lets say I spend about $20k on, which is probably more like $30-40k since sometimes I cover the bill and have people give me cash. 60k points on that alone. I just booked 3 nights at the Park Hyatt Saigon, Hyatt Regency DaNang, 1 night Grand Hyatt Hong Kong for 55k points on my upcoming trip.

Not to mention fringe benefits like extended warranty on all your purchases, car rental insurance, etc.

It's really more like a $150 fee, as you get $300 travel credit each year. Already got mine for 2016 & 2017.

I travel a lot for business, and they let me do all my own booking with my card and I get reimbursed. So far I've earned ~42k points since August. That would be $420 gift card at Amazon if I just did a 1:1 redeem. Plus the 100k points, and the travel credit x2, this card has netted me in excess of 2 grand already. More if I transfer to UR partners or redeem through UR travel.

Obviously the main profit of this card will be getting the 100k points, + 2x the travel credit, then cancelling before you're charged the $450 fee a 2nd time. If you don't do much travel/dining etc. it's probably not worth keeping.

Oh nice, I'm out of the 5/24 lock as of today! This is a pretty nice deal, I think I'll see if I can get it.

I also noticed they reimburse for a Global Entry or TSA Precheck which I've been putting off ... nice extra bonus that makes the annual fee basically disappear the first year along with the travel credit.

from what i hear, this card is a must have if you travel a lot. Not so good if you don't. Is that true?

What's this 5/24 lock thing you dudes are talking about??

You can't have opened more than 5 cards in the past 24 months or it's an automatic denial.

I used to open a ton of 0% interest cards to temporarily cover tuition while I waited for work to reimburse me after the semester. They're finally getting old enough to get me clear of the rule ...
